Default HF wireless winch remote on WARN M8000

Saw this while shopping there: http://www.harborfreight.com/wireles...rol-69229.html

used a %20 coupon and got it for $21.xx

The plug was the same as a warn so I figured why not try it out and see how well it worked.

Well the plug is the same, but it is not the same. Different wiring configuration. Warn uses 5 wires, this used 4....but still had the 5 pins.

I was going to re-solder the wires and use the plug it came with. This way I could have the wired as a backup if the batteries died. However i found this was not possible because the 5th pin had no wiring and you need it.

Chopped off the plug from the warn remote and wired it up. Took me a while to figure it out, but managed to get it to work.

This thing has great range. I could walk 50 feet out and it still worked. Has a slight delay when you press and when you let off. I know this is because it has to go through two relays instead of one. easy to get use to though.

Beats spending $100+ For a warn brand name.

I thought about buying the warn wireless remote for my 8274,but was told my winch is to quick to use it.I think that little delay might be a problem for delicate winching with a fast line speed like ny 8274. It would be nice to be able to get farther away while winching, and loose the wire.

delay is not that bad. you get the feel for it after a while. im sure with a load it will be better.

Any chance you recorded the color codes used and/or pin configuration?

yes. I can take pictures of the wiring later today after I finish up some homework. It seems to be well made and with a little bit of silicone to seal up the box, it should be water tight

You could still have the wired controller for delicate situations.

I've thought about building my own wireless remote. I've had situations using it to move cars by myself that it would have been handy.
