Title Question

I'm going to transfer on my 86 XJ and it's still in the original owners name and it is signed off but the lien was never signed off. It's a "A" title from 86 and was told because of age it wouldn't matter. The finance place listed don't exist anymore or changed names since the Jeep was in the original owners possession.

I'm going to the DMV Wed and was curious if I was going to run into anything with this there.

Will there be issues with a 26 year old title?

They will probably ding you for unpaid sales tax when you purchased it from the "original owner". Other than that you'll probably be fine.

I paid $100 for it, that's what they'll tax. At least that's how it was in all the others I've done.

Last car I bought I forgot to sign the title, when I mentioned that I needed to sign it the woman at the SOS counter said "Nah, they don't even record them after 10 years"

So, why then is it such a pain to get a title for a 20 year old car that the title has been lost?

Great. I was afraid this may have a bad ending. Good thing it worked out for you!

I was half expecting more leg work but this just breezed thru. The odd part is when I got new tabs for the truck. It ends up they changed things and the plates on my truck were now commercial. So I got a new plate too. Not a big yank.
