Default 98 Blazer transmission question

My neighbor has a bad trans in his 98 blazer 4.3l. He had it swapped with another trans and that one was also bad. I sold him a good trans out of a 93 blazer, 4l60e, same as the one in the 98 I thought. He just talked to another shop today and they said that the 93 4l60e won't fit in the 98. I don't understand why they said this. And I can't find any reason in my searching either. Anyone have first hand knowledge?

ummm kinda what in2deep said, the 93 model 4L60E has something different that makes it not interchangeable with other years; I honestally don't know what, nor have I gotten a straight answer as to why. Every single transmission/mechanic type person I have spoken to has said that they are not interchangeable,

1993 will not work because the 3-2 downshift solenoid is different, also it does not have a pwm lock up solenoid either which the 98 needs. The 93 is also a different case, but the biggest issue is they are electronically incompatible.

Cool thanks for the info, sucks because now I've got to try to sell the damn thing again…

So all in all, even though the trans that came out of the 93 is a 4l60e, there is no way to effectively use it in the 98 4l60e?

Could this be why the replacement trans he got didn't work? And if he is to get another trans what year range does he need?

Possibly a good reason why it doesn't work.

1998-2000 should work fine. 1997 will work but I think something needs to be swapped but for the life of me I can't remember what it is.

only other difference i can find is whether or not it is a 2 piece case or not. that part won't matter though.
