I am not stressing as much about going out there and being stranded/hurt as much as I am about having damage to one of buildings or having something bad happen to someone who works for us. DR is one of my responsibilities and it's hard/stressful to be responsible for something when you can't do anything to help resolve it currently.

In general, sure, they get more visible/taller @ the shore, but as he said, Lake Michigan has the long shallow shores that don't build massive heights, as gravity forces them to flatten out as they slowly rise. Most places that have big shore waves are somethin glike Waimea Bay in Hawaii, where you have a bay that catches/funnels/insensifies the waves, and a bottom that slopes very rapidly from 75ft up to the shore (if you've ever been there, you know that its the beach even above the water line is a steep hill). A place like that breeds 50ft faces at the shore.

The tsunamis you talk about are completely different. They aren't a wave. And really aren't usually massively tall. Its more like the ocean just suddenly goes up 20-30 ft, but doesn't come back down, so it just keep flowing in, in, in, never stopping sometimes for miles. Its not like a 10ft wave that smashes down, but then recedes...

My parents live on Lake Huron in the thumb, I will see if there's any cool reports from there. I'm guessing the 3 generators from Ziller are still sitting uninstalled in their garage right now...

It churns my stomach to watch. When I was in the Marines and aboard the USS Saipan in 2000, we hit rough seas off the coast of North Carolina the night before we were to come home. They weren't as rough as that video but consistent rolling waves of 20' in a giant flat-bottomed ship was no picnic for me. Many of us Marines spent about 15 hours hunkered down in the racks or cowering in fear somewhere quiet while the Sailors aboard went about their normal routine laughing at us.

Who's that guy on here that lives on a houseboat on the East Coast? Doesn't he live near Long Island now? I hope he's safe.

Imagine that the Coast Guard at the Bay City post is going to take a pounding, they get all of Saginaw Bay, and the coast of water up the edge of lakes Michigan/Huron. Water out there in the shipping channel is dredged to 75 foot, they could lose boats 150' long.

I intend to provide photographic documentation of the waves on lake Michigan. I will travel to the shores of the great lake and image the waves for all of you. In return I would like a stack of hot cakes with maple syrup.
Good Bye.

I have never been out in any waves that big on a jet ski but there is a group of guys from the UP that buy parts and empty hulls from me that go out whenever there is big waves and get extensive fiberglass damage from nothing but waves. This guy brought one down with him that the keel was crushed in the middle. It is just crazy how powerful water is.

thanks for the link to the rest of them - a lot of shit is getting passed around, regurgitated, etc. I've given some folks some shit over the date "credit" they left.
