The entire sport has changed since this build started
Might as well make it go fast!
I'm sure it will be an impressive rig either way.

The chassis is too small to do the go fast safely. I will probably throw the air bumps on but beyond that, it's going to stay as-is for as long as I own it. Right now I'm thinking ill drive it for a year or two. Then I'll take the good stuff out, sell the rest and build a mostly full body jeep similar to walkers that Campbell built, that can drive down the road, crawl and do the high speed stuff easily. That will probably be the last vehicle I build/have built for a long time.

The difference between this one and any that will follow is that I had nothing to wheel while building it and I built it too small to be able to use anything that isn't a one off part. There have been several lessons learned on this build and I wouldn't do it the same way again. It's not worth pulling 1-2" out of somewhere just because its possible, make it bigger, don't cram shit together and everything goes a lot smoother and quicker.

On the plus side, I have a whole bunch of mock up parts that can make things go quicker if I decide to build another one at some point.

I built a few of these lately...

They are almost as fun as the real thing but they take just as much work to keep maintained and keep nice.

I think that's the direction a lot of people will be going to eventually, myself included. It sucks having $$$$ tied up in a rig that you can't ever drive on the road and have to trailer for hours and hours to be able to legally use.

The argument is the safety aspect of taking your rig home on the trailer after a good pounding and inspecting it before it goes on the road again.

/threadjack

Glad to hear you're getting back into it. Hopefully we'll meet up on the trail some day.
