Default Fleas

Found some fleas on my Aussie last night in the middle of the 4th inning. Instantly gave him a bath and a handful came out.

What's the best method out to eradicate them from my house? I bought some aerosol, powder, shampoo and a spray you put on the dog today. Anything else I need to get?

We use Advantage, but if you are afraid of them being in the house you'll need to bug bomb a couple times or more. The aerosols don't kill eggs.

Go to the vet. The meds will kill the live ones and the eggs. The house will clean up if no food for them

Vacuum the shit outta everything, empty the vacuum outside, I got a great spray from the local veterinarian, wash bedding ect. Worked for me.

GRRRRRRR. My dogs got fleas this year. We have been trying to get rid of them for two damn months. Everytime one is cured the other one has them. It is freaking driving me and the wife crazy. Im going to bomb the house today. We have never had a problem like this for the last 7 years we have had the dogs. To make it worse, our golden retrever is allergic. One flea on him and he breaks out and acts like he has 100. Good luck!

I think we put Advantix Trio(I think) on our dogs monthly. Has to have the Flea Tick and Mosquito repellant and kills the eggs. When we do find a flea they usually get a bath and then have to bust out the good vacuum instead of the Roomba. We usually don't see them for longer then a couple days on the dogs though using these methods.

This.

I came home from a training excercise here in Texas and they were somehow in my gear. No dog in the house then so they went after my wife and I.

Carpet powder, spray for all the furniture, FIVE of the big bug bombs that treat 1500 sq/ft EACH. Our apartment was only 500 sq/ft.

No more fleas.

Probably cut off 15 years of my life from exposure to chemical weapons during that war but the fleas have never seen such a shock and awe campaign.

The fleas are horrible thi syear for us too. Seems we are bombing every other week. Using the Zodiac line of products from TSC. Have torn carpet out of half the house and refinished 40-year old wood flooring to help keep the fleas from having fodder to lay eggs in. Im tired of fleas and flooring...

Do you give your dog a monthly flea pill like sentinel or something? It keeps fleas from reproducing and infesting. You might see an odd flea but a bath and vacuuming like normal and ive never had a problem. My dog regularly roams a farm and my hunting woods.

On the odd years where i forget to renew the sentinel, flea bath, powder the dogs bedding and up the vacuuming a bit has taken care of whatever fleas i saw

Having said that, i moved into a rental a while ago without my dog and started noticing fleas in the house. I bombed and sprayed the living shit out of it for a month and wasnt able to completely get rid of them. Broke the lease and left. I dunno wtf was up with that house

Call an exterminator.

We had them running rampant a few years ago. The dogs and cats were treated with frontline monthly, still got them.

We tried every damn thing short of the bombs...probably spent $150 on powders and such...still had fleas.

It drove us crazy for weeks while we tried to do it ourselves.

Called the exterminator, $100 and they were gone in like 2 days. Best money I ever spent.

If you put the animals outside, it'll make it 10x worse. My wife made the mistake of locking the animals outside after finding the fleas...that just makes them attack you full force.

We switched Over to advantix after that, we did find some on the small dog the other day...but nothing on the big dog or the cat. Guess they're really bad this year again.

Dont vacuum until you either bomb or use something to kill them on your carpet! The vacuum with shake the eggs and make them hatch if they arent dead already. Try Baking soda. Ive heard that works or borax then vacuum

I do pest control for a living so I would advise using a product with a IGR (insect growth regulator) as one of its active ingredients. Get a sprayer (a cheap plastic one will do) and fan spray all of the floors in the house top to bottom. Then vacuum the house daily for a couple of weeks. This should take care of your issue. There is no quick overnight fix for fleas. It is a process so don't expect immediate results.

Use this:

and this:

If you use bombs, please follow the instructions.some can turn your house into a bomb. Pilot lights and some sprays=boom. Oh and remove pets first, I had to rescue some dogs when a neighbor set off the bombs on their way to work.

This. The spray we recommend is called Mycodex..shit kills everything from fleas to spiders and ants and continues to kill them for 210 days. As far as on the dog frontline or if it has a negative heartworm test there are some great heartworm preventions that kill fleas as well.

Well I vacuumed the entire house, the carpeted areas I used a clean bag and threw it away outside and the hardwoods I used the shop vac and went to town. I followed that up with Sentry Home spray and powder on the carpets, and that stuff that was recommended from TSC on the rest of the carpets, hardwoods, furniture and especially his 2 chairs he sits on.

I washed the dog with flea shampoo, didn't see as many as I expected, and after he dried off I dosed him with Frontline Plus.

Weird thing is I've never seen one on me, no bites nothing. They are all over him though, I feel bad for the guy now. He doesn't really itch a lot either. Very strange.
