when i first put it in i broke one of the wires going to the trans plug and it didnt have 1st or 4th. It only had 2nd and 3rd and when it shifted to third then it shifted fine now that i have first gear it slips going into 3rd and still doesn't have 4th....could it be a weak pump and not getting enough pressure to operate now that i have 1st again

Im trying to hold off on pulling it back out if i can...kinda hoping it to be something in the valve body ir sensor of some kind...i was kinda thinking maybe its a weak pump or something...also i noticed that when i really step on it ( not quite wide open) it doesnt shift outta 1st till almost redline but shifts fine into 2nd

Sound like electric issue. Happened to me on 2 trucks.

They act like neutral rev to 6K rpm and not ever moving until you stop and restart then it drove fine for while. Turn out bad rear sensor speed on axle was short out.

Time to do OHM all wires find which one is rot or bad contact.

03' is that fly by wire or does it still have a shift cable?

If your sensors ohm out, and it is fbw you should be able to get a shift solenoid fire sequence and test the solenoids to make sure they are firing in the correct order, at the correct time. Or your dad should be able to hook it to a Motis or possibly a Tech 2 at the dealership and run a diagnostic on the trans.
