Joe is very good at being sincere and weaving different topics together.
With 5 minutes left, I've got to score this debate as: Joe 51 Paul 49

Joe is a good debater and can/will shove his way in. Unlike Obie, he shows passion. Ryan had better content, while Joe had stronger delivery.

Joe's beating the "I'm just a middle class guy" drum hard. However:
Ryan had the better closing. I'd call it a draw.

Say what?!?

I forget who on this board said it but it sticks in the back of my head and I repeat it to everyone I can. "This country needs a business man to run it, not a bleeding heart".

Spin rooms seem to be focusing on how rude Joe was. I didn't like it but didn't think it was a big of a deal as it may end up.
I agree, Ryan's closing was good. Draw, +1, -1, who knows. Probably too close to matter. WOW.......... Chris Wallace just hammered Biden for being so rude.

I listened on the radio cause I was driving. Didn't get to see the laughing and smirking. On the radio it sounded like joe won because he just seemed to control the conversations and it sounded like he knew what he was talking about. That being said be also sounded very rude by talking over all Ryan's comments. I'm happy to see on tv after that he is getting hammered for that. There were many points I really thought Ryan would send home better. He was just too nice.

In retrospect I'd call it a classic case of "age and treachery beats youth and enthusiasm".
Joe offered little in the way of specifics or real information. He used his personality to dominate the proceedings. They obviously learned from Obie's poor showing and adopted an "Animal House/Eric stratton" strategy where, when faced with your record or weaknesses, respond with populist generalities whether they really apply or not: the 47%, I'm all about the middle class, you favor rich people, etc... Joe repeatedly referring the Israeli Prime Minister as "Bibi" to show that they're pals was a thinly-veiled attempt to [a] play up to the traditionally Jewish voters who are not impressed with Obie or his attitude toward Israel and [b] illustrate how wired-in he is versus the workout kid. Joe did a good job of throwing a blanket over the proceedings (with vague slogans and emotional appeals) whenever Ryan moved toward facts and figures (his strength). Ryan was clearly less experienced and appered to be occasionally exasperated with Joe's antics - although he controlled his emotions better. Instead of a condescending "what an idiot grin", he kept a (mostly) straight face and instead tossed a few zingers out there. While he showed up OK, Joe dominated the proceedings - although in a bullying way. The moderator was clearly in the tank (no surprise there). On a couple occasions, she did Joe's work for him and challenged Ryan on points. To her credit, she did finally try to pin Joe down on a statement, but it was only once and she let him weasel out. Not a game changer, and I suspect nobody was swayed either way.

Last night's debate:Biden sounded almost exasperated as he declared the United States military would leave Afghanistan at the end of 2014.
“We are leaving,” he said. “We are leaving in 2014. Period,” May 2, 2012 The 10-year security agreement signed this week by President Obama and Afghan President Hamid Karzai is filled with fuzzy language and loopholes -- and stands as more of a guide than a contract for the U.S.-Afghan relationship in the post-war years. Obama called the agreement historic and said it "defines a new kind of relationship between our countries -- a future in which Afghans are responsible for the security of their nation, and we build an equal partnership between two sovereign states." Pentagon spokesman Capt. John Kirby said the "strategic partnership agreement" is not intended to address the specific terms of an continuing military relationship. The agreement pledges the two nations to begin work on a more detailed pact and sets a goal of one year to complete it. "Clearly if you're going to have troops remaining in Afghanistan, you're going to have to have some guidelines that govern that," Kirby said. "What form it takes and what title it has ... we're just not there yet."
