96 F350 5.8l engine hop-up option?
What all can be swapped over from the 302 to 351?
I just got my truck and I am got a set of headers for it off a 95 F150 with a 302. Was told they will work out just fine for me with this thing. Wound not mind throwing a Intake on the truck as well if it will work for me. |

Your headers might not work. I had to do some creative fab work (Ghetto Tech) to get my pass side 302 header to fit a 351W truck. This was on a 86 F250 but deck height is different between the engines and Hooker Super Comp headers are different part numbers.

Headers from a 302 will be shorter than headers you need for your 351w, so your stock y pipe will not reach properly. Heads from a 302 will work on a 351w only if you expand the head bolts from 7/16'' to 1/2", and I would recommend a professional do it to make sure the holes stay square. There are not many EFI intakes for the 351w, and 302 intakes will not be wide enough to reach the heads. A cam upgrade will be your best bet to liven up your truck and your OBD II system will handle the changes.
Even more simple is to change your gear ratio, go to a higher set to either 3.73 or 4.11 and that will set your power band lower in the RPM range. Anything you want in performance, you will lose in mileage. Push rod engines are not efficient. |

The headers are long tubes and the exhaust that is on it now is junk and I plan to have it redone once I put the headers on. The manifolds are cracked am leaking now.
Gearing is 4.10s from the factory and I am running 33s right now. Also I do not bog this or off road it, It may see the dunes once in a wile. This is my tow rig and work around the property truck. |

look around on full size bronce about bumping the timing better plugs wires and coil, i did all this on my 96 350 5spd 4.10 geared truck and got better MPG's and could totally notice a power difference. also had a 3" single exh out the back with stock cats and manifolds.

I dont have any cats on it and it goes from a 2 1/2" dual set up in to two Glass Packs then after them into either 3" or 3 1/2 " single dump exhaust. I know the DS manifold is junk. It has a crack all the way up it right in the middle of the manifold. I will go check out the Ford Forum and see what it will need to be bumper up to. |

Since its a speed density motor you could take the roller cam out of the 5.0 and swap it into the 5.8 and advance the cam timing 4º to bring the powerband down about 500rpm. You will need new pushrods tho. I did this on my 94 f150. I also swapped over my underdrive pullies from the 5.0. I also had to widen the 5.0 fuel rail to fit the wider 5.8 lower intake. I also switched to a plastic 93 mustang clutch fan essembly, much lighter than the steel clutch fan setup off my 5.0 f150 motor.
