I know it's been a while since I've updated my thread but spring is my busy time of year and there hasn't been much to update with aside of replacing the fuel gauge and doing a oil pan and timing cover seal/gaskets.

But friday my seat covers came in and yesterday my dad came over and we made some progress on them.
I got them from beachwood and am very pleased with them. I didn't get foam for the front bottoms in case I wanted something less thick. we did get the backs and the rear seat completed though and think they look great.

Awesome work Looks like your daughter certainly is enjoying the effort.

I had a spring go through my original seat cushions this weekend. I think that I will replace mine with canvas the current ones are more vinyly and really brittle. Perhaps that was what the CJ's got instead of Canvas?

update with some miles put on him:

the headlights stopped working. the blue wire at the dimmer was too long and it got caught in the clutch pedal draft pad spring and pulled off. I fixed that and made sure it won't happen again.

I had to disconnect the horn because of a problem with the contact up at the top of the column. I put a new assembly there and that corrected the problem with that, but now the horn sounds steady when you make a left turn due to some issue down and the lower bushing/contact area I will investigate this further.

the rear output double lip seal and new flange have eliminated that leaking issue which is good.

I had an issue with fuel draining out of the pump bowl when hot. it is not going into the crankcase. so i am thinking it is going back to the tank. but it's been fine the last 3 days without draining back so I am a bit stumped on that one.

The carb is toast and quite simply needs to be replaced. the choke is not functioning correctly and is causing problems so I need to address that post haste.

Dang that has turned out well. The double lip seals only seem to work for me for a few thousand miles. I have changed one every other summer.

I don't know how much time I would spend on that horn bushing, it seems when I see a early CJ that is actually driven, most have had to bypass it with a button under the dash (or for the super redneck ON the dash). By all means fix it if it is easy though.

I hear you on the horn. I am thinking it may be the length of the screws I used to attach the contact to the column. I had isolated them with small rubber o-rings but I am thinking that on a left turn the top screw is hitting the soldered portion of the button wire as it rotates and completing the connection.

but my rear main is dumping oil since I changed the pan and timing gaskets. so today at lunch I have to go pick up some new gaskets and seals to put in.

I have a summer top on order for it as well.

once I get the oil leak and carb replaced it should be even better. we're taking it to butler, pa in august for the bantam jeep festival

Horn has been fixed. the lower contact was hitting the soldered wire on the contact ring and knocking it off. I re-soldered it and flipped the lower contact 180 degrees so it rides on the opposite side of the contact ring. carb shipped in for rebuilt one so should have it back to me in a few days.

Got the summer top for yancy in the mail yesterday.

I also had gear oil leaking from the front of the tranny, but I think it got overfilled. as it was above the fill plug. I drained it back down to the bottom of the fill hole. thats what I get for pumping into the xfer with the trans plug in. hopefully that fixes that problem still working out a few little gremlins
