Tree Stand Thief

Over the past 5 years, I have been hunting state land behind my friends property. This state land is completely locked in by private land, so its not very easily accessible by anyone who is not a land owner bordering it. My friend owns 40 acres which i can hunt, but the prime hunting land is in the state land just behind his property surrounding an enormous swamp. This is the area I have set up every year and every year my tree stand winds up being stolen at some point in the season. There is only 1 neighbor near where i set up, and im about 95% certain hes responsible. All neighbors in the area have had problems with him. It doesnt matter if i set up deep in the swamp, somehow my stand still winds up stolen. One year I was headed out to my stand and when i got there, my stand had been taken down and a piece of shit home made stand was set up in its place with no way of climbing up to it... who does this?? Long story short, I have lost 4 tree stands ( HUNDREDS of $$$) 3 of the stands were locked up with cable tree stand locks (all hanging stands) What can I do to catch this guy? I have considered trying to hide my trail cam out there to get him on camera, but if he spots it im sure hes stealing my $160 trail cam. Nothing piss's me off more than a thief. Any tips on how i can catch this guy??

with the way the justice system works the better question is what do you plan on doing once you have that other 5% proof by catching him?

Then I hear the best thing to do is feed them to pigs. You got to starve the pigs for a few days, then the sight of a chopped-up body will look like curry to a pisshead.

You gotta shave the heads of your victims, and pull the teeth out for the sake of the piggies' digestion. You could do this afterwards, of course, but you don't want to go sievin' through pig shit, now do you?

They will go through bone like butter. You need at least sixteen pigs to finish the job in one sitting, so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm.

They will go through a body that weighs 200 pounds in about eight minutes.

That means that a single pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression, "as greedy as a pig".

Get a kryptonite lock and chain. Can't cut through that with bolt cutters.

AUse climbing sticks (the strap on ladder type deals)....put the stand up really high....secure all the sections of steps except the top one....that way when he climbs up to get the stand the steps give way and he plummets to the ground....he likely won't get up

My son had a tree stand on state land for like 6 months (he forgot it was out there). Went out to see if by chance it was still there and was very shocked to see it still in the tree.. He also had a ladder stand on my parents private property.. He went out to check that stand and it was gone.. Uggg, people are just crazy.. Good luck on your search.. lol

the people in the leota/harrison areas are the worst pack of fucking thieves i have ever seen. we have land and oil wells in leota, they have even stole the guards off our oil wells for scrap. they stole a gas air compressor while we were on the property.

It gets real expensive when they steal climbing sticks!!! And believe me, i have been brainstorming ways to get him hurt when trying to steal my stand... but my luck he would wind up suing me for him getting hurt while he's stealing my tree stand.

Well i thought i was hiding them alot better in areas that are hard to even walk to. And I have been locking them up better but they always seem to find a way to be a dick. All of the other state land around me is cramed with hunters. Theres only 1 person in this area and hes aparently the biggest thief around.

Admittedly I know nothing about hunting, but can't you take them down and store them until the next year?

are they getting taken at night ??
i like the idea of leaving thwclimbing atick unhooked at the top....oops it broke loose its on state and land he cant prooveyoy left it unhooked

or camp out in cammo at nightmake sure he does see you take it out there...
put trail cam up in a tree near by and cammo the hell out of it make sure he cant get to it even with your sticks..
he shouldnt see it if it is one that dont put out any light...
or place cam near where he may be comming in at again burry the hell out of it in leavs and sticks.....

Its public land and wasn't your stand

As for stealing the sticks....he's gonna use them to retrieve the stand first and that will be his downfall.
