Default Issues with the new GC

Thinking of buying the wife a new GC and was wondering how well made they are. She drives a 2004 GC and it is time to trade it in. Any issues? which motor is more reliable?

I've already had calls on head gaskets for the 3.6 from the dealer, dunno if that's the motor you are looking at buying. But if yea, I would wait a little while to see if that motor is decent.

I love the pentastar 3.6L probably one of the best motors chrysler has made. We have a 2012 wrangler and this motor has been flawless. It has no issue pulling a 5k lb boat for 1500 miles this summer.

So far so good at my shop. I have heard of some issues on the 3.6,mostly early builds.

Currently head issues, valve guides wear and misfires soon after. Also there are/were problems with the camshaft phasers. That's for the 3.6L, the 5.7L been around long enough. Other then that it's a pretty solid Grand.

Friends bought one...have had issues with coolant leaks (rad hose and T-stat gasket), rear wiper not working/intermittent (elec harness issue), and tail lights filling with water/allowing water to leak inside.

Realistically though....every vehicle has its problems. The cyl. head issues would be a much bigger concern to me, though.

I thought the head problems were on the earlier 3.6's?

My 2012 JKU has the 3.6 and it's fucking stellar compared to the old 3.8. It actually has some balls and moves quickly, even loaded down with 5 of us and all of our shit. I'm getting about 1.5 mpg better than my 2010 did with the 3.8 on the highway. It's quiet and smooth. Oil changes are painless with the new cartridge filter on top too.

Mine was built in January, so I'm not sure if I'm going to have a problem with it or not. It doesn't matter, if it does I'll just be without it for a few days.

Picked up a 12 GC for the wife about 4 months ago. She was driving an 04 CG before and the new one is 10X what the old one was. No issues with anything on this vehicle. 12's much better than the 11's which had some real issues with computer control systems.

it was the early 2011s that had issues. My 2012 JKU is like yours, very happy with it.....I have pulled a 5k lb boat this summer and it did great, and did good on fuel.
