A bad ass one. It was pitch black dark in the mine and it looks like daylight in that picture.

This trip was just a pre-curser to an anticipated GLFWDA event next year. The GL Trail Ride committee is trying to get this back off the ground from when it first ran back in the early 2000's. The problem then and still is today, not enough people want to put the 'elbow grease' in explore the trails complete with all the dead ends and turn arounds. And believe me, we had some of those too. But then again, that's what makes this type of event so much fun for some and a complete bore for others. Friday was a pretty hard core day and Saturday was a bit easier but I wouldn't trade either one.
The catch is, don't expect Whiterhino and I do everything. There were others that know some of the trails up there but were unable to attend this year. We need more people to step forward to help lead trails. Finding trails up there is not the problem. Connecting them up to some existing ones we know is the puzzle part.
Besides having a reliable vehicle you need a good GPS. After that, it's plain old exploring. WR and I can point you in the direction to go, it's up to all of you to follow through.
This country is undoubtly is one of the last great adventures most of us will ever experience. But I wouldn't wait to long. With the price of copper rising, opening the mine back up is a real possibility. The owners went in this last February and did some sample drilling to see if it still might be worth it to start Tribag back up. If they do, all those great pictures will be just memories. And then there's all the wind farms that are planned for the area. Over 200 windmills. While we are told it won't impact us, the first wind farm (Prince) bisected one of our favorite trails. It is no longer a useful trail to go on.

Awesome pictures. I can't wait to get back up there...it has been a few years.

I still have some old GPS tracks from the Gitchee Gumee runs from a few years back. Hopefully I can help scout some trails next spring, I would love to lend a hand

Be very careful of using tracks from a few years ago. Many of the trails we used than are off limits now due to the new Algoma Headwaters Provincial Park creation, private propery ownership, and the new wind farm construction.

We'll make sure we have all of our GPS Units tracking when we go next week.
Maybe we can start a data base of the trips to help with planning future trips?
