One Step Realty in Grand Rapids - DO NOT USE THEM
Do NOT use this company in any way, shape, or form. I contacted them last week to look at a rental in Lansing. The leasing agent Mark answered and I attempted to set up a time to visit the rental. He claimed to not have anyone available that day to show the house. He promised to call me the next morning when they had someone lined up to show the house to me. I finally called him at 1130 the next morning only to be told that they didn't have it figure out yet and to give him 5-10 minutes and he would call me back. No call. I called him again two hours later to set it up and he still didn't have anyone available. On a recorded line here at work he promised that I was first in line to see the house and promised to call me Saturday morning when he was done with an appointment in Grand Rapids and on his way to Lansing to show me the house personally. At 1130 I left him a message that I was still waiting for his phone call. I tried to call him on Monday and never got an answer. I finally called at 230 this afternoon and got him on the phone. At that point I was told the house was leased on Friday. He had no explanation on how that could be since nobody was available to even show the house. Thanks for wasting my time Mark at One Step Realty in Grand Rapids!!!

My bitch is that this guy told me I was first in line to lease the house and we set an appointment for Saturday morning to see the house. He didn't call me and wasted most of my Saturday. I am in a time crunch to get in to a rental house and was very interested in this one. It is just the principle of the issue. I don't like when people make promises, then waste my time.

I don't "want" to live in Lansing. But, after a divorce you don't always get to live where you want. I am also tired of the 30+ minute drive to/from work when I can live 5 minutes away. With $4.25/gallon diesel the savings will add up. Plus I can sleep in another 25 minutes.

I heard the following:
Mark at One Step Realty in Grand Rapids takes candy from kids. Mark at One Step Realty in Grand Rapids screams at puppies. Mark at One Step Realty in Grand Rapids road rages at funeral processions. Mark at One Step Realty in Grand Rapids doesn't even have the damned courtesy to give a reach-a-round. |

Doing a little more digging on this company and it turns out they have screwed a ton of home owners out of a LOT of rent money. They lease to scum tenants that will fall behind on their rent so they can kick them out. Every time a new tenant moves in, One Step Realty gets the first month's rent. Pretty good scam. They didn't want me because I can afford the house and won't get evicted. Tons of stories on-line from pissed off home owners that hired this company to manage their rentals. They were even kicked out of the Grand Rapids area BBB.

The better question is why would someone in Lansing hire a leasing agent in Grand Rapids. I don't care where they are located. They had a house here I want to look at. Not my problem if they have to drive an hour to show it. They represent houses all over the state it looks like.

I am looking for a rental. I've never heard of something like a buyers agent for people looking for rentals. Lansing just sucks for trying to find a decent house in a decent neighborhood with a garage and a fenced in yard. Most of Lansing is older neighborhoods with houses that have dinky garages or no garage. Think carriage house type stuff. That doesn't even consider the areas that are basically Flint or Sagnasty...
