Awesome. Shoot the big ones before they breed. No wonder your deer population is made up of shitty little deer.

Dont get me wrong , I'm all for youths getting involved with hunting and the great outdoors , I think its great !! Especially hearing more and more girls are starting to hunt now , thats great too !! Ive been hunting with my dad for 26 years now , usually 3 to 4 trips a season , and I've never missed a season in all of those 26 years - and hunting is still the most and best bonding me and my father have together !!

But when I was growing up there were no early season hunts , and it just doesnt make any sense to me why the DNR came up with these early youth hunts , I think its just a money scheme !!

In our area (section 067) and 12 other areas surrounding us , next year they are talking about making it the first buck would have to be at least 4 or more on one side for the FIRST BUCK (for 5 years) , and this year (area 67) Private land we had to enter a loto for a doe permit , and public land was blocked out , no permits / so the population is way down and 95% of all the bucks are tiny !!

So if its not about money , why would the DNR even think about early youth hunts ??

I hope no one that went on the youth hunt takes this the wrong way !!

No youth hunt, but we bought our tags today for Bow hunting Monday. And yes, my son an I shoot real bows, not bows with triggers. And yes, he is only allowed to take mature bucks on our private property...It's part of teaching the next generation to be responsible caretakers of nature and our resources.

Here were his groupings when he was 13 years old.

And here is his deer from 2 years ago (can't find pics right now from last year). 10 minutes earlier a small 6 point had walked by and I told him to let it grow up. Then this mother doe stepped onto the trail...

And here's him welding on his bronco since nobody else is posting pics of the youth of our nation :)

By bows with trigger do you mean crossbows?

Yes, and I don't mean this as an insult to any handicap hunters or youth who can't pull a bow, or Joan of Arc, but I always felt October was a special month for hunters who took time to disappear into nature and skillfully hunt, and now that everyone and their brother can just pull a trigger the woods are full of trampling bafoons the entire season rather than just Nov 15-30.

Meh. My dad was a disciple of Fred bear, I grew up using a recurve and cedar arrows. I use a hoyt crx 32 with a 80 lb draw nowadays. Fuck being fair. My little sister killed her first Buck with her little pse, 45 lb draw. IMO if you can't pull 40 lbs you shouldn't be hunting bow. Handycripples excluded.

I love how you described bow hunting for the way it used to be , disappearing into nature and being one with nature for a little while , thats how Ive always thought off it !!

And its not just bows with triggers , they also have friggin scopes on them (come on) !!

But on a nicer note congrats to the youngins that got a deer !!
