87 Comanche MJ 4.0 5 speed 4x4 D44 Grand Rapids SOLD

The Specs:
  • 1987 Jeep Comanche Long Bed Base
  • 4.0l engine
  • 5-speed BA10/5 trans
  • NP231 t-case
  • D30 front axle
  • D44 rear axle
  • 195k miles, plus a few.

Was my DD, then was going to make it a project truck. I've been fixing/replacing/upgrading. I was going to swap in the interior and engine/trans from a 97+ XJ, but I don't have the time or money right now, so I'm hoping to get some money out of it rather than dump money into it. The longer I have it, the more likely some of the bad/ugly things will be fixed, but that will change how much I'll negotiate on the price. Also the tool box probably won't go with the truck. Optima does not go with truck, I don't currently have a battery that fits with the hood closed. I'll see what I can do about getting one thats decent. Not pictured is a metel cap for it. I would sell the cap separate.

Looking to get $1000. Only possible trades are professional mechanic tools or tool cart, possibly a cylinder head for another 4.0 Jeep I have. It's a 2000 casting 0331, but I'm open to adapting others. Call or txt (six one sic)4 forty six 260five.

The Good:
  • D44 rear axle with new wheel seals/bearings a couple thousand miles ago
  • Rust free bed and tailgate, PO said from Florida
  • Fuel tank replaced with new one by PO
  • 30x9.5R15 BFG AT tires, ok tread.
  • 4x4 works great, D30 vac disco has been bypassed.
  • Full guage cluster w/tach
  • Grant GT steering wheel
  • Factory sliding rear window
  • 97+ XJ manual doors adapted
  • 99 XJ power brake booster/master cyl/prop valve
  • New hard brake lines pretty much everywhere
  • Rear soft line from Ford truck? I forget what it listed but it uses the same fittings as stock and was replaced within the last year
  • Left front unit bearing/hub assembly is a Timken and I have the warranty info for AutoZone
  • Left front axle u-joint replaced with bearing
  • Factory front skid plate
  • Factory front tow hooks
  • Hood scoops are functional, if not pretty. i have another hood that's the same spray bomb color without scoops that can go with the truck. By the way, the color is rustoleum red for touch ups.
  • "Police style" spot light
  • New high volume oil pump, Felpro Perma dry oil pan gasket, and rear main seal witin last year
  • New Felpro Perma dry valve cover gasket within last year
  • New exhaust/intake gasket within past year, also replaced manifold with non-cracked used manifold at time and replaced water pump and t-stat
  • Exhaust down pipe and additional pipe replaced 10/1/12. Rest of exhaust ok and complete except cat that was removed by PO. Thus this is sold as an off road vehicle unless you put a cat back on it, since that's what the law says. I can install one if you want, but would need the extra cash for it.
  • Aftermarket CD player. A basic Pioneer is what goes with it, I have a few others as well as speakers/1 amp/1 sub that could possibly go for the right deal
  • Rusty's Intake tube and K&N filter
  • Metal bed cap (black) with sliding side windows and good liftgate struts.

The Bad
  • Speedo cable broke. There's a few more miles on the truck since then, but maybe 1-2,000
  • Coolant temp sender is still the dummy light one
  • Doors still need some alignment
  • Steering shaft joints worn
  • Some dents on bed
  • BA10/5 trans. Occasionally pops out of R, synchros are a little touchy.
  • Valve tick
  • Wiring for power mirrors not hooked up yet. They're in the right place for me and I'm 6' tall, so it never bothered me.
  • Radio antenna is missing, threads are stripped at the mount. i have an extra base/antenna for it that's not currently installed.

The Ugly
  • Rusty rockers, cab corners, floors, and front fenders
  • Matching paint is a spray bomb job
  • Holes in roof from previous light bar, although they have been filled in with silicon and don't leak.

bump.

did u put those tires on it, or the previous owner? (reason I ask is...do they all hold air/do u know if they've been repaired/patched.?)

Also,
did you mean to put the "hood scoops" under the "bad", or "ugly" column, because as it reads..you have it under 'good'.

tires are from previous owner. one had a slow leak i repaired by cleaning the bead and sealing, i have found no evidence of patches/repairs. they all hold air decent, i haven't used it much for a few months and none have gone flat.

hood scoops depend on your perspective. that's from the previous owner, i wouldn't have done it, but they're not just stick ons for looks. i have another hood that's the same spray bomb color without scoops that can go with the truck.

it isn't the best picture, but yes it is a d44. i'll see about getting a better pic, but you can see the angles somewhat along the top/bottom, and the right side is too straight for a d35.

Very Nice truck for the year. Lot nicer then any MJ I have ever had. Drop $2000 to Rebuild engine and trans and a 2 days of body work and you would have one kick azz ride. Sure this will sell fast.

GLWS.

thanks although i'll admit, it's not the nicest i've had, i use to have one with 90,000 miles...no, not 190,000...90,000. shouldn't have sold it.
