The fact that it was poorly worded is not the problem. It's the people playing the clip, they don't play the WHOLE clip, they play those 1 or 2 sentences. When you listen to the whole thing, it's pretty obvious what he's talking about when he says you didn't build that (ie bridges/roads/etc.)

He could have worded it better so that it couldn't have been so easily turned into a sound bite making it sound like he was saying something he wasn't.

Yes, it was built by the people, for the people with tax dollars. It was not built by the companies using it.

I get what he was saying and I still say he's wrong. The roads and bridges were built by the government taxing the people. Without people being successful, there would be no taxes to collect to build the bridges.

I know of no businesses, small or otherwise, that operate without the use of infrastructure paid for with tax money.

And without the continued collection of taxes to maintain that infrastructure, and to help fund new technology, many businesses will not continue to be successful. That I believe was his point.

I don't disagree with this. This is part of being a society, it's really a no brainer. But we all need to put into it, not just the top 50% (or so). Look at the early days of our frontiers. (if we can believe our John Wayne movies) It was the local businessmen who hired the sheriff, paid for the first schools, built the boardwalks on the street fronts. So, to say that they built their business's because the government did something for them is wrong. They did it themselves. Now that our society is much more sophisticated, we seem to lose track that the bulk of the money for all the infrastructure still comes from the successful business's. Not the other way around.

I never said he did, I said he worded it poorly, giving a sound bite that made it sound like he was saying that business didn't build their businesses. This prevented much meaningful discussion about what he really meant like we're having now.

The way I took his comment was that if someone were to start a trucking company today, they would not need to build a highway system, it's already build. Is someone wanted to build a company that relied on a postal system, they would not need to go build a postal system, it's already build. If someone wanted to build an internet based system, they would not need to invent the internet, it's already here. If someone wanted to build a business that required well educated workers they would not need to build a school system, it's already here.

Yes, all this infrastructure was build using money earned by businesses in the past and taxed. Today's businesses need to recognize that their success is partly due to contributions of those that came before them, and the continued success of business in this country relies on them continuing to pay into those same systems.

probably more like 35% ish.

most union workers will not vote for him.
most people on welfare, unemployment, or food stamps will not vote for him.
most liberals//socialists will not vote for him.
most african americans will not vote for him.
most immigrants wont wont for him.
most people that pay no taxes wont vote for him.
most pro-choice people will not vote for him.
