Default surety bond question

What are these surety bonds all about. The SOS said i needed one because the sled i bought is worth over 2500 bucks and has not been registered in Michigan before. (its from Wisconsin) All I have is a bill of sale and the surety bond sounds like its gonna be a big draw out process and kinda of has me confused, most people I have talked to haven't even heard of one. So i figured i would turn the great minds of gl4x4. Long story short school me on registering a sled that has not been registered in Michigan before.

Its a 2008 mxz 600rs

I also have a set of tnt plastics i wanna throw on it just to mess with people lol

I had to do it back in 2000. Paid about $100 for the bond from an insurance guy, had the popo run the vin and then got a title. It only took a couple days..

oh alright that doesnt sound too bad, the lady as SOS made it sound like it would be easier to sell a kidney and just buy a brand new sled.

Pretty much what Fatty Matty said. It isn't that bad.... I did one 3 years ago now. Although the SOS can run the VIN now vs. the police. Just call around to insurance companies to find one that does them. The amount to pay for the bond depends on the value of the vehicle.

That is correct.... but that isn't what you pay out of pocket. It is basically an insurance policy that covers all three parties.

Let say the sled was stolen and the last true owner finds your sled and says "That's my sled! I never sold it! It's stolen! blah blah blah." He would have to prove that he never sold it and have the documentation. The bond then protects all parties by relieving the SOS of liabilty for re-titling it, you keep the sled, and the previous owner gets the bond money (double what you paid).

oh alright that makes alot more sense then the way the insureance man explained it. I acctully just got it on my lunch break it was very simple, heres the money and heres the papers kinda deal. I guess 100 bucks isnt too bad when it totally protects everyone involoved.
