Default Problems with xbox 360

I am not an avid gamer by any means, but I do enjoy sitting down to a sports/hunting/first-person shooter every now and then. Point being, its not very heavily used. The damn thing seems to be freezing on random loading screens...at random times....on a variety of games. Anyone out there that can tell me what the hell might be going on with this piece of junk?

No, although I do know what you're talking about. It just freezes, and nothing (dashboard, etc.) works.

Does it do it after playing it for a while? If it happens right away, its probably a short somewhere. If it does it after playing a while, do what i mention below.

before you trash it, go on youtube and watch a 3 rrod repair video. Even though it is not flashing, it couldnt make it any worse. The repair is very simple, and all it takes is some pennies, electrical tape and some thermal paste from radio shack. I never dealt with electronics like this until my xbox got the red rings. I have repaired multiple since.

It probably has a metric ton of dust in there. Try cleaning it out....It may not be your problem but it will def not hurt!

Open the drawer and shoot the laser head with canned air, it's probably gummed right up with dust. Sometimes the grease on the read head rails will gum up from non use. It turns to peanut butter, and becomes an obstacle. Clean yo shit.

Before the red ring of death, this is what happens, your over heating it a little and its saving its self right now, it will die completly soon enough, you can try fixing it off the vids on you tube, I havent had much luck with it lasting very long after the fix though. I am not a huge gamer but on shitty winter days ill play for a while if the wife is working.

If you decied to trash it pull the hard drive out if it, you can plug the old hard drive in to a new on if you buy a new one, you wont loose any saved games that way either and you can buy the cheaper 360. That is what I did, even though the new hard drive is a little diffrent the connector is the same and you just need a little space to hold it up.
