larry at benzie tire and wheel hooked me up with some new shoes today. he is just west of twisted trails on 115. good guy to deal with! goodyear finally decided to start making the mtr kevlars again finally. they are 37 12.5 17's. i just need to find one more h2 rim so i can have a matching rim for my spare. there wasnt much room left in the bed of the avalanche with five of them in there!

plans have changed!

beejers finally decided to sell me his old tube buggy project. he is using the 60's, t case and tires on other projects so i will be getting everything except those items. that leaves the chassis, 5.3,4l60, seats and a little bit of body. here is a link to the build thread
Another 1ton YJ "56k beware" - Great Lakes 4x4. The largest offroad forum in the Midwest
. his tube work looks awesome and i love how it is layed out.

parts i have
-tube chassis that needs finishing touches
-2004 ford hp dana 60 front axle
-hp ford dana 60 rear axle with ford 9" outers
-37 12.5 17 mtr kevlars
- h2 rims
-psc steering box with forward facing pitman arm
-10'' radflo airshocks, hoping to get 14" coilovers though
-tj tub, hood, windshield, hardtop and doors
-i got a couple t cases, not sure which i will use

bj made the chassis the perfect size to be able to put a tub around it so i am going to use my tj body. i am also going to rework a little bit of the tubing so that i can use my hard top and full doors. i really want to keep this thing somewhat streetable. bj did an awesome job on the chassis, it would have took me 48 sticks of tube and 26 years to get it done i will be picking it up from him in a few weeks, meanwhile i am going to get my front axle cleaned up and shortened.

A friend is buying my air shocks and long arm kit that was on my tj. I am going to pick up some 14" coilovers. Should i get the 2.0 or 2.5 and what brand is the best bang for the buck?

I was talking to Mike today about the radflos that gordy put on the orange buggy and he had nothing but good to say about them. I was doing some research on the profenders after you told me about them but i don't know if I like the fact they are made in tiawan. The price is great and a lot of people said they like them though. Are the remote res shocks worth the extra coin over the standard emulsions?

I honestly don't know what I am going to do with the buggy yet. I just don't want to kick myself for not spending a couple extra bucks and getting the right stuff. I have never had something with a v8, harnesses and a full cage before. I have a strong feeling I am going to do some dumb shit

Go for the remote resi, besides a little extra work mounting them there's really no downside. As for a brand preference, I also vote Profender. I've got a set sitting in my basement waiting to go on my Jeep. I've heard nothing but good things about them, and based on looks alone they should be great. I too would prefer something American made, but it just wasn't in my budget at this point.

king 2.5 rem res- $519 ea w/ 90 day warranty
fox 2.5 rem res- $580 ea and couldnt find warranty info
profender 2.5 rem res- $429 ea w/ 12 month warranty
radflo 2.5 rem res- $485 ea w/ 12 month warranty

for $56 more each i think i will go with the radflo over profender. i cant find much in the way of reviews on profenders but rad flo sounds like they have done pretty well at the KOH. in not knocking the profenders at all, dont get me wrong. it just scares me with the lack of info on how well they hold up and the fact that they are made in tiawan.

Profenders are not made in Taiwan. They are made in Thailand where quality is important. Do a search and see what else is made in Thailand, you may be surprised.

If you're not gonna be using it hard enough to be sure you need remote resi then you definitely don't need 2.5" body. Save yourself a chunk of money, some trouble finding ideal spring rates for a decent cost, and lots of headaches with packaging and go with the 2" body. I seriously doubt you'll find their limit.

The reason I'm not sure if I need remote resi or if i need 2.0 or 2.5 is that I have never owned a rig with coilovers. I called king and radflo and they both highly suggested the 2.5, they said I would be borderline between the 2.0 and 2.5 so it would be smart to just go up to the 2.5. Profender doesn't have non REM res shock on their site so that is why I did the price comparison on the 2.5 REM res. I'm not set on anything right now I just wish I could find more positive reviews of the profenders. I am just nervous about dropping all that cash and be unhappy with my purchase.

Profender-
I'm sure your shocks work great but for $200 more I can get American made shocks with a great reputation instead of something made overseas that i can't find a whole lot of reviews about.

I won't be ordering shocks until I get the buggy mocked up further so I get the correct springs and valving. Lots of time to research! If i can actually find more info about profenders I may end up saving the $200 and get them.

Don't forget if you are going coilover, you can get Michigan made PAC springs through Alumcj. It's great to support a Michigan manufacturer and Michigan racer all in one.

Good to know, I will definitely give him a shout when I get ready to buy springs.
