Compound Bow Help
Shot Oneida for the past few years...looking into getting a new bow for next season and dressin' the Oneida up for carp shootin'. I've been leaning towards Mathews (z7x) but a lot of friends swear by Bowtech, Bear, etc. I've been out of the circle as far as new technology goes, so I'm just looking for some thoughts/opinions. Thanks.

I was just at a bowshop wednesday and the guy was raving about the Struthers. However I shoot a Bowtech, Mathews are also nice, but you have to go and just shoot some. Take your release to a few differnt bow shops and just different bows until your arms hurt.

Don't buy a bow until Steveo posts. He once shot two deer and a mountain goat with one arrow, while taking a dump in his outhouse, er, cabin in Wyoming.

I shoot a hoyt crx 32 with 80 lb limbs. i bought it used at jays in 2010 to replace a PSI fireflight express. It fits me well and I like to shoot it. Bowtech has some nice bows available and they have the higher draw weights too.

Bows have come so far in the past 10 years, like others have said go to a shop and try some. One bow might shoot good for bob but you don't like the grip or breaking point. Once you find the bow you like, dress it up and start shooting. I have always been a fan of Martin bows.

I just bought a martin last year and its nice but I was at bass pro for the hunter classic and a brand called quest was there, they are a local michigan company, I shot their bows and god are they smooth, fast, and accurate. A ready to go bow was 460 or 480 cant remember which but a good price, not to mention supporting a local company. Just another to try, hell try my martin so i can go buy a new quest.

My buddy bought a new Quest last year and for the price it is dam nice
Now, that being said, if you shoot it the pick my Hoyt up and shoot that there is a definite quality difference in all aspects. Is it worth the price difference? That's up to you....for me the answer is yes. I have my sights set on a Hoyt vector turbo for next season.

Do yourself a favor and shoot many arrows from many bows.
I bought a new bow last year from Adams Archery - and I recommend them HIGHLY. I went out convinced that I was getting a Matthews G7, and after spending almost three hours shooting various Matthews, Bowtechs, and Hoyts - that were set up to my draw length and weight. I shot about 200 arrows so my arm was sore for two days afterward. I ended up with the bow that felt best and shot best for me, in this case a Bowtech Assassin - which was not what I walked in expecting to buy. Can't say enough about going to a real professional archery shop - and since you're downriver like me, Adams is a good choice.

I shoot bows & I'm a girl

Shoot the z7x and then the rest. Compare them. The z's are super sweet but at the price you want to make sure it feels right. There are a lot of great bows out there! Just as important is where you buy it. You want someone VERY knowledgable who will help you make the decision AND outfit it right. Shop around. I prefer independent shops rather than big box. Get it soon-hunting season is right around the corner! I'm voting for Matthews!

I didn't replace my PSE Fireflite Express cause it stopped killing lol. the new technology in the bows these days is great. My new bow shoots faster, harder and is easier to shoot.

Just repeating what has been said, but you do need to go to an archery shop, with knowledgeable staff, and shoot them. I did that a couple years ago and got a Hoyt Katera and love it.
