Default First accident

Well had my first accident today and it was a good one. During rush hour A 66 year old lady changed into my lane in front of me where it was tight, and just as she did the car in front of her slammed on her brakes. I dont know if she bumped that car but I sure bumped her good. Her damage and my damage

Yeah I got one, The officer said is it the law that someone in the accident be at fault and receive a ticket. It is understandable because I should have made more distance as i saw her moving over. I didn't have much time to do anything. Im looking to see if its worth the hassel to request an informal hearing. The lady said that I really didn't do anything wrong. It's life I guess. It ruined her whole day and plans I just drove home after.

The officer lied to you. they do indicate "driver 1 and driver 2" which typically indicates the causation, but they are not required to issue a citation for a traffic accident.

if anything she could have been ticketed for a whole variety of things.

if you have paid personal leave time, I would absolutely plan on an informal appeal - the insurance raping will be more than the ticket...

Yeah they don't have to issue a ticket, I rear ended a lady on a snowy day when the roads were slick I'm a situation just like yours and no tickets were issued. I would fight the ticket and ask the cop directly to reduce it to impeding before you talk to the judge. In my experience they usually will since it means more money for them, but it keeps it off the record.

Mistakes can be made on issuing tickets!
I was hit by a pickup. It was passing two vehicles at once. Also started to pass in a No passing zone. Oh I was driving a farm tractor. Other vehicle was my chase with e flashers on. Deputies knew all parties no tickets. Shift commander reviewed report, had ticket issued to pickup driver.
If tractor owner, my chase had known it would have made a difference in his insurance. I believe his insurer would have then gone after pickup's insurance. We were not told about the ticket, his brother told me about 2 months later.
I was also hit on my motorcycle. Driver was fighting her ticket. When the officer called me for court and I told him my injuries , he stated that he should have wrote he more/ different tickets. I showed up for court to find that she dropped the case/ paid her ticket.

This. I'm thinking Improper Lane Change (If MI laws are similar to IL laws).. You don't want that totaled car to be on YOUR insurance. Fight it.

This is incorrect. Insurance companies don't give a shit if you got the ticket but they do care if you're at fault.

I would fight it if you think that they could somehow switch it so that she was at fault. Otherwise you'll just be fighting the ticket, insurance will still be the same.

Looks like you bent up the bump brackets and maybe the frame horns a but. But Damn that Car is a goner.

As for getting a ticket. The Cop did not have to give you one at all. I rear ended some a few years ago under shity circumstances and the cop did not wright me a ticker but the he did wright on for the guy I hit one. Thats a cops desctetion and that's all its about.
Also had a old crabby bitch sideswip me and tried to tell the cop it was my fault. I was in a right turn lane slowing down and she cut across 2 lanes and hit me.

BULLSHIT. Any time a cop says "It's the law" they are lying. I had an accident a couple years ago, totaled a car, when some bitch driving daddy's mustang cut me off in traffic. The cop didn't write either of us up... It isn't on my record, the insurance company never knew about it. So, yeah, you got fucked.

I had the same thing happen to me years ago. She got the ticket and her insurance paid to fix my car.
