motor oil with flat tappet cam/lifters

I've always ran mobil 10w-40 non synthetic. I run zdp additive ...risline I think its called, yellow bottle.

Anways i'm thinking of putting in synthetic since I run the engine hard. I see mobil 1 15w-50 has good numbers based on this chart: http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...duct_Guide.pdf

What is everyone running with old flat tappet cams?

Amsoil.

This is their newest high zinc product. http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/zrt.aspx

This is what I run in the sister in laws '04 WJ with 4.0 that was the wifes DD since new. http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/amo.aspx It has over 210K on it. A couple lifters did their ticking thing at 180K. I Replaced the lifters, cam and other, 'while i'm in there' things. The cylinder walls still had the cross hatching in them and all the bearings had considerably little wear.

I run the same 10w40 in my ZJ, have since break-in on the new engine (~30k miles) with no issues so far.

I hears vr1 isn't true to their specs?

Can you leave the amsoil in longer then 3 months? I know some race oils you can't leave in for long term.

If you run certain Amsoil oils and their filters they allow you to go 25k or longer with oil analysis. I change the oil in the SIL's WJ once a year.

Literature from their site.
http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g1490.pdf

I make one purchase every year with all the filters and oil I will need for my vehicles. I get the preferred customer discount that costs $20 a year or less if you sign up for longer. It will pay for itself with the discount depending on how much you buy.

I ran 10k-12k change intervals in my ZJ when it saw more regular use. Now I change it once/year since it sees 5,000 miles or less/year
