Campground?
Looking for a nice campground around Cadillac.
Something with a nice lake and some hiking trails. Any ideas?

Sunrise Lake State Forest Campground. I haven't been there for years though. Nice lake for swimming but the campground is across the road from the lake. There used to be a little restaurant there, don't know if it's still there or not though.

I spent the weekend just a little north west of Mesick. Found a nice spot on the Manistee River. It was off 42, N. 23 RD and W 12 RD. The North County National Scenic Trail is right there too and many hiking trails just south around Brair Hill. (you should be able to find it on a map)

I have camped with my fam at Camp Cadillac a few times. Nice place just east of town on Boone (34rd).
Family oriented setup, nice easy in and out location and flat campsites. Has a pool, game room and a little petting zoo for the kids, quite a bit of goings on and real friendly people. My boys loved the barrel train and going fishing in the pond. Try this http://www.campcadillac.com/ |

west of cadillac you have alot of places along the manistee and pine rivers cool water campground is along the pine we do our yearly club camp trip there no lake but there is a nice lake about 7 miles away for sawiming or you have the pine river that runs along the place also...and as said lota of rustic camping spots along the manistee...i can show you some of the rustic places along the backwaters if you are looking for aomething like that ...shoot me a pm i live rite there in wellston...
also on the north side of the river alonf the tippy dam backwaters you have a real nice rustic dnr campground with the hikeing trail rite out the back side of the place the "north country trail" Last edited by jeepguy74; July 23rd, 2012 at 10:55 PM. |

Mitchell State Park is the best option. I believe most of the state forest campgrounds in the area have been closed for a little while.
North Country Trail or the Manistee River Trail have good hiking. The short trail across the street from Mitchell State Part, at the Carl T. Johnson center is a nice little loop if you have never been through there. |

Try out the Muskegon River, they rent canoes and kayaks not sure about any hiking trails there. I'm hitting the Muskegon a little further up/ over(today).Old Log is a nice place but charges to park and per boat, I'm broke so going where it's free. I own kayaks so I don't need a livery to rent from.
Keep an Eye out for a Bald Eagle, last fall on my last paddle one stayed with us the whole trip! |

Look around Leroy if you don't have your heart set on Cadillac. Rose Lake Park is nice, tons of trees and probably 10 degrees cooler on a hot day due to the woods.
Sunrise Park would be my next choice. If you get to Leroy, head up to Travler's Lodge and get the prime rib. It local beef, and the best I've ever had. And yes, I spelled 'Travler's' correctly. |
