Default They are allowing "robo-people" into the olympics?

London 2012 Olympics: Games legend Michael Johnson believes Oscar Pistorius has an 'unfair advantage'
The 400-metre world record holder, Michael Johnson, believes disabled athletes who use prosthetic limbs should not be allowed to compete in able-bodied races, as it has not been disproved whether or not it provides them with an "unfair advantage".

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/oly...advantage.html

I wonder if people with giant metal springs for feet have an advantage.

I agree.

Look how far and how fast this technology has advanced. There may not be an advantage at this point, but there soon will be.

An article I was reading awhile back about him and his attempts to qualify for the Olympics stated the prosthetic limbs he wears are second hand and originally built back in the 70s or something like that. It isn't like they are the top of the line newest and best out there. I'll have to find the article again and post it.

If he doesn't have the world record what are they worried about?

I could see concern if all the sudden he was beating all the times, and coming out way ahead, but if he is running within normal range what's the harm?

Working in there orthotics and prosthetic field, I would say in a few years people WIll be able to go faster push harder. With the prosthetic limbs.Right now we work a product call the cleg . It is performed via computers can change a persons gait, this is something that should be watch and considered

I think without a doubt they should not allow them in the olympics. Prosthetics will soon be a clear advantage and could be already. How about a swimmer attaches some flipper legs, a triathalon athlete could have different attachments for each event.

They should define a policy soon and make it clear cut.

or they could just allow full-bodied folks to strap on similar appendages and compete?

not quite identical but it's not the first time someone thought of it

The guy in question has been tested for years to see if he developed advantages. He didn't, and isn't expected to medal.

They shouldn't allow him to compete with limb'd people then. It isn't fair to anyone.
I do hope amputees excel and smoke out limb'd people, but imo it should be segregated.
Also I can guarantee once amputees start smoking record times their popularity will explode.

This is why they do not allow wheel chair racers against people on foot in marathons, the wheel chair racers crush runners times.
