Default How to go about lowering lifted front end (coil springs)

Possibly getting a lifted 98 dodge ram for a dd that I will want to lower down 2inches or so. Back leafs will be easy...smaller blocks unless I'm missing something. Can I cut two inches out of the coils without screwing up the front end?

Just buy limiting straps. Compress your springs to desired ride height and install the new straps.

super cheap, cut out coils one at a time. it works but most will probably frown on it.

I might do that. I have all the means to...moms boyfriend runs monster trucks so I have all the equipment I'd need in his shop. If done right, safe for dding?

Limiting straps as well, good for a daily?

Cutting coils is a bad idea. The top and bottom "coil" is flat (or similar shape) so that it sits in the coil bucket correctly. If you cut that off, it wont sit in the bucket correctly, and if you try heating it to reshape it the springs temper is destroyed.
The limiting strap idea would probably work, at least until those straps break from being under constant stress. What are you going to do when 1 breaks while you're driving it?
Buy the right springs, whether that means new or finding some used.

Okay, so I can get smaller springs. Its appalrently 12" of suspension running 38s....2 inches over, probably going to drop it 2.5 or three....so springs for a 9 or 10 inch lift? is that all I'd need to do up front? or would I need a new pittman arm...etc

Yes you CAN cut the coils then weld them to the buckets. I have done this on 2wd (lowered) trucks. You get a 2/4" drop for around $100. But, I have never or would ever do it on something that would ever go into the mud. There are many differences between how a lowered ride and a stock ride truck are treated and what you can get away with.

You need to simply buy smaller coils. Rent/borrow a spring compressor remove your old and put in the smaller ones. You may need to pull one to find out what the spring rate/company is before ordering if you want a similar ride to what you have now.

Yes dropping it 3" is going to change your steering linkage. Without knowing what pittman arm you have now who knows. Putting a different one in is not hard.

Now before you do all this stuff. Go out there and turn the wheel all the way to the right look at the wheel well/frame. Then do it to the other side. Are you going to have clearance issues with your current tire/rim combo once it is lowered? Just from looking at the photo you may need to trim your bumper a bit so it does not hit on hard ruts.

Anything that is at 12" of lift, all suspension should probably not become a DD again...if it wasn't a dd at that height...12" of lift calls "I got the piss beat out of me"...regardless I cut coils a couple times. It's not "that" bad, I'd have to say they will break sooner or later but it's not as bad as everyone says...

The length of your coil spring determines how stiff your junk rides.You shorten your coil,you make it ride worse,and it works harder so it fails.It alllready drives like shit,it's a dodge,why make it worse.

Damn dodge is linked and your screwed. Toss a thick skidplate on it if you think the locals gaf. Not exactly legal by the book. But, really the only cheap crappy fix. Or, just keep the thing off the street.

Normally kids do the coil spring clamps if they are too cheap to buy the right springs. They are right next to the lift/lowering blocks in AutoZone.
