Hummer H1 Build and Rehab... New Guy Here

Im new to the forum, I met a forum member selling my other truck and thought I would share my build with you guys.

The truck is a 95 Hummer H1 with the 6.5 non turbo 4 door hard top.

I bought the truck in New Jersey and drove it back home... I started this build a few months ago and since I just joined here Ill try and bring you guys up to speed. Here are a few pics of the beast.... although it looks tame as a sheep compared to some of you guys rides on here.

Lots more to do to get the truck back on the road.

Looking forward to wheeling with you guys!

Looks good from the smaller photos. Was it in bad shape when you picked it up?

There used to be a guy in Flushing that had an old military one and I believe at some point his frame cracked in half at some point.

I've always wanted one of those things. But now parts availability would be my only concern. They never really made a lot of them and they have been out of production for a few years. I guess I never really looked into it though. I'm sure a lot of the non civilian specific parts will float around for the military for awhile though. What are you seeing in that realm?

Sorry for the small pics... im using Tapatalk for the first time...

The frame is solid... it has a nice ring when I tapped it with the ballpeen hammer.

Im addicted to these trucks and honestly parts are very avaliable for them but they cost a bit more than your average chevy truck pieces out there.

There are some great vendors that offer up deals every once in a while and your right, the surplus stream is steady and lots of parts swap over to the civilian side.

Ill try a few different pics... maybe they will be bigger.

Just got my led lightbar in from Trailworthfab. I AM IMPRESSED...

I put a comment in the order form asking for a picture of a smoking hot chick on a real Hummer....and 2 stickers... guess what... it happened!

I had to hook this beast up and this is blinding bright... the pic is of the garage with no lights on... just the 40" light bar.

Im wishing I would have bought a 52" bar.

I cant wait to get this project buttoned up and see it on the road..... at night.

I may get some comments on this but I feel like these trucks are very solid and capable from the factory.... I have seen nice rigs sell for 22k in the past that would make killer trail trucks.

These trucks are heavy and a bit wider than most vehicles out there but so worth it to me.

Im not a Jeep hater, I fully recognize that Jeeps are tough as hell and can go practically anywhere. Hell, they come from an awesome military lineup like the Hummer and if the Jeep never existed the Hummers might not be in my garage.

Did I just convince myself that I need a Jeep too.... damn you guys getting me monologuing.

I never bought a Jeep because the Rubicons were always too pricey for me and I didnt want to spend 20k on a stock truck and then spend 10k on stuff making it how I wanted it when I could go search and find a Hummer for 30 and be ready to rock...

I picked up a plasma cutter yesterday... I cant wait to start slicing stuff up!

So many projects dancing in my head.

Well, I have been pretty busy, the Hummer is almost finished, I guess thats a relative comment.... is any project really ever finished... I listed it up for sale on Craigslist to fund a new project, I really made it too nice to go ripping through the trails with or covering it in mud... So, if someone wants to buy it I figured it will help offset the cost of a real military one that I can redo and paint in camo and just beat on.... So many scammers and dreamers that frequent craigslist I probably will end up keeping it rather than dealing with tire kickers and low ballers... I did have a Nigerian prince wanting to buy it... Ha Ha... So, We will see.... 35K is my asking price.

Today I was driving it and the front brake line decided to start leaking... that looks fun to replace all tucked up under the frame.

So, over the past few weeks I built some armor for the truck both the bed and the side rails under the truck.

The Hummer had the option of coming with a flat protector on it so I took some old ones (steel) and welded up some 1/4" to form sort of a trail edge that sticks out just as far as the mirrors do when they are folded in.

same on the back with the exception that I made one of the protectors have a door that locks to store a few things in... I am thinking that I will put my winch controller and a spiral air line in there.... nothing too expensive.... because it would not be too hard to pry that thing open.

I also picked up a CNC Plasma cutter, ready to rock... I strapped on my plasma cutter with a modified hand torch and cut a few things.... The Miller 701 lasted about a week... then the smoke escaped out of it.

I ordered a Hypertherm with a machine torch to fit in the machine better, I am still weeks away from drawing my own CAD or .DXF files in AutoCad or anything like that... I did down load some sweet rock rims/rim protectors/rim stiffeners that I will be cutting out and welding into my spare set of Hummer wheels.

Lots going on in the garage, I am sure I will slow down this Winter seeing how my garage isn't insulated.

I made a few You Tube Videos with a time lapse app on my Android, I thought it turned out pretty cool... The one unloading the plasma cutter sure makes me wish I had a little forklift.

I have big dreams of having a small fabrication shop for neat off road parts for the average blue collar worker, that translates into high quality stuff that does not leave you eating Top Ramen for weeks, just a few days!

I hope all of you guys and gals had a great Christmas and New Years.

Awesome truck and tools, welcome. BTW I saw you're shop wall. I had to build one of those about 7yrs ago. What a bitch! Somthing like 15,000 nuts and bolts. Then I had to build a jig out of scrap steel in oreder to lift the damn things with the skytrack. I told the boss it would've been better to put the sections together in the air, but noooooo!

Thanks guys,

The garage is big and nice, but it sure is cold in the Winter and Hot in the summer.

I need to insulate it somehow... But that is pretty costly after looking into it.

My new Hypertherm 45 came in today, I have it almost all ready to go in the garage with the exception of power and the CNC on off for the plasma torch.

I need to research a bit more on the type of D-sub connectors it uses before taking a chance with burning up the remote on it.

So, no cutting just yet.
