Default totaled TJ

I started this project with a jeep that sat in my backyard waiting for the owner to get out of the hospital. He got out and was going to scrap the tj. So i bought it thinking i could do something with it. The more I worked on it the more ideas i got im my head.

I stripped all the sheet metal with an excavator and saved as much as i could.
The frame was bent about 7" inward and 4"up in the middle of the drivers side. I picked up a salvage frame and tub from davey's jeeps in ohio.

after looking at the two frames I decided to straighten the bent frame because it was an unlimited. so i straightend it and cut all the brackets.

I picked up some full size dana44 and 8.8 axles cheap knowing they would need to be rebuilt. and started mocking up the 4link

I found lots of parts on this site and just kept at it. I had a goal to get it driving in three and a half months so we could take it up to silver lake for labor day weekend last year.

made all my own brackets, link arms, and did all the fab work myself.

well i guess i had alot of help from my son(1yr. old at the time)

The original tj unlimited actually had a 4.5" rubicon express lift on it(i had no idea until i took it all apart) So i used those coils with 1.5" spacers and some shocks i had sitting around. The back shocks are actually off a 2001 f350.

The body was definatly shorter than the previous unlimited. I decided i wasnt going to cut and stretch the body, i would just figure the back out later.

you can see how much the frame was hanging out the back(gas tank included). but it was "good enough" to wheel.

I had my second son(Grayson) in the middle of this build so finding time to get it this far along was tough.

but we got it ready and took it to silver lake for the end of the summer.

so this past winter i brought it home and welded up a cage, cut tubed the fenders, bed linered the underside, built bumpers, fixed motor/electrical problems, built tire carrier, welded on some bead locks, painted and im sure many other things im forgetting. and found time to play with it while i worked.

my son (Gavin) wanted his jeep in the picture too.
