I'll be there again.

Those of you who are thinking about it . . .

Please realize that these are more for informational purposes. Business is taken care of behind the scenes.

My buddy Jeff was going through the meeting minutes from the last two years and noticed that, meeting after meeting after meeting, there are 15-20 people who have signed the attendance sheet as an under 50" ORV user -- but only 2-5 people signing in as a 'full-sized' ORV user.

He was wondering if this mignt be incidentally indicating to the DNR that the over 50" crowd isn't as interested in their trails as the under 50" guys.
Subsequently lowering the DNRs interest as well.

Interesting theory.

Everyone sign in as a representative of the over 50" 4x4 ORV group and we'll test it.

Personally, I think it's more complicated than that, but it sure won't hurt.

How long do these last? Planning on going still, but may have to leave a little early.

please try and make it. it helps to go and make yourself be known to the board. they need more 4x4 folks to show support given the numbers Ironman has posted. I have seen meetings as short as 2 hours and as long as 4 hours. so its all up the group thats there.

So the yellow flyer they handed out, the 1st question on it is regarding towing into the Dunes with a strap, Is this over-riding the ordinance or whatever it was that allowed towing into the dunes???

I was about a half hour late, but I made it.

I was late too . . . caught up in a trafic jam for an hour (what fun).

It looks to me like the sheet is to clarify the existing laws on proper towing. I'm wondering if it's Pete's way of looking out for us. I see both the State Police and and the Oceana County Sheriff's Dept. listed on the bottom. They might be having trouble and Pete's trying to get the word out to help us avoid a ticket.

Strictly opinion though.

P.S. FINALLY met Yetti - pleasure, sir . . . If I'd have known you were there too(jeepfreak81), I'd have said hello! We need more full sized attendees -- Did you sign the attendance book?

Yes I signed in, I was in the far rear right corner, brown sweatshirt jacket. I think I saw you, but looked afterward and couldn't find you, I don't know what Yetti looks like though

I was talking to the guy who is head of the dunes after the meeting and he was telling me all kinds of things that people did there. he said you can't even take in a non running vehicle. quad, bike, etc without a parks sticker & orv stickers because he has seen guy put the engines in after they get there. I was having a good time listening to all the people last night , lots to hear. by the way TF nice to meet you & Jarhead

Simply to get around the $4 daily fee? That's pathetic. I always have been checked for ORV sticker at both 'gates' entry, and where they check for coolers. Funny enough, when I had my quad I would take a spare motor with me... lucky I never had to use it though.

Yetti, so that was you representing atv offroad club talking at the end? I think he had camo suspenders on....

So since this is still stickied, anyone else care to comment on the closing comment/issue from the older gentleman regarding the live axles on quads vs Differentials. Personally i thought it was retarded, for the increased cost that would be put on manufacturers, I honestly do not think that ON AN EXISTING trail that the amount of soil disturbance would be significant enough between the 2 types to justify mandating a change. Even the safety factor he brought up I felt would be negligable based on how most of the people ride the trails, it might make sense on the beginner quads where people are not powering through turns though.

just my .02 worth I guess

since I have followed this for some time it may help if you know a few things. the state of michigan looks at ORVs as a plauge. they are so unwanted they have been legislated into obsurity. if you didn't know Hovercraft are ORvs in this state thats why you can't operate them legal here except on open water. secondly ORvs can't be made road legal with out a roof, wipers, seatbelts, and a live diff. Live axles exist on 90% of current production ATV & RUVs and the manufacturers are putting more in, but its not cost effective for them. so with that said we need guys like Joel Sheltrown to make laws that side line the legal aspects of ORV law that prevent operation on road shoulders.
heres the kicker, Arizona makes it legal for ANY ORV that you want to put on the street. you need to add a mirror...thats it and pay $135 for a yearly licence instead of $15 for a 3 year sticker. then you get to ride anywhere in the state except federal highways like 95. so is it worth it? hell yes, and they can't keep up with demand. the state is making money hand over fist and the majority of users are trans plants from back east..go figure.
