Courthouse where you were born should be able to get you a certified copy for a couple bucks.

$20, go to the courthouse, take your drivers license.

I had them make me up 2. I think they only charged me $15 for the second, don't recall now.

I was there less than 20 minutes.

My mom lost mine a couple years ago and had to go to the city clerk of the city I was born in, Royal Oak.

Granted you need it a little quicker, but I was able to order certified copies of mine online from the county I was born in.

Were you born in Oakland County? If so, the County Clerk should have it on file. Here's the details of how to get a new copy if you were born in Oakland County. The process should be the same in most counties, but the fees might be different: http://www.oakgov.com/clerkrod/vital...tificates.html (when I needed to get a copy of mine a few years ago, I think it took me longer to park and get through the metal detectors than it did to get the actual birth certificate)

You can also go to the Clerk of the individual community that you were born in. If, for example, you were born at Royal Oak Beaumont, you would go to the city Clerk's office: http://www.ci.royal-oak.mi.us/portal...tificate-birth

I was born in Wayne County..... But adopted by my stepfather. I had to get mine from Lansing. Once the adoption went down the cert was only available there. I pretty sure thats the deal with every county.

I also had to get mine from Lansing because of being adopted. It took around 3 weeks to come thru the mail.

You can order them online as well. I had to do this for a friend of mine before. All you need if I remember right is your SS #.

Must be young kids. I remember my mom and dad having to apply for SS#'s for my brothers and I when my younger brother was born. That was 1970. Before then, they didn't just hand out numbers willy nilly to just any lucky asshat that was born in this country.

I was able to order mine through the mail from Detroit - took about 3 weeks or so. I was shocked at how little information I had to provide to them to get it though.

Sounds like if I slipped the clerk down there a $100 I could get a stack of that special stamped paper. Be a a few more citizens born in Detroit living down in Arizona.
