Default Sorry, been non-stop busy since then.

I think it went quite well.
They were very nice.

We'll have to continue our work on the M37 Project to see how the process unfolds. Now, at least, they have a MUCH better understanding of what it is we're looking for!

They seem QUITE willing to work WITH the 4WD crowd -- BUT -- the 4WD crowd MUST properly use the tools as set forth by the rules and laws the NFS operates under.

The BIGGEST hurdle we MUST overcome to really make this work on a large scale:

They HONESTLY believe conscientious, organized, four wheelers are the minority and the 'tear it up when ever and where ever you want' crowd is the majority.

This makes them wonder if giving us the type of system we asked for would really reduce off-trail behavior, or not.

We MUST get people educated and organized.

(begin rant)
Either join a club or form a new one of your liking.

--BUT--

GET INCORPORATED and join the new GLFWDA and there-by UNITED through them.

There is a LOT of help available with how to incorporate and organize.

This is the ONLY way to keep count of our numbers.
The NFS and DNR don't.
If you're not a member of an Association, you're uncounted!

Your inaction has inadvertently become part of our problem.
BECOME PART OF THE SOLUTION!

P L E A S E !

(end rant, sorry I'm tired)

You say the DNR doesn't keep count but I know thats not true. they have even put traffic counters on the trails (those black hose things) so I know they are just playing dumb. a side from that the state doesn't want to license ORVs with a number & plate so they may continue to denie the numbers of people who are doing the right thing. I brought this Rep Sheltowns attention in one of my letters. if this state could/would plate ORVs then the majority of offenders would be able to kept low. if you have number plates then someone would see it and turn you in. right now its very hard to identify anyone on a quad or bike doing damage or littering. whats worse is the trash that being dumped in the trails is more likely people who don't use them. one of the worst seasons is hunting season. because just about every swinging dick heads out and they don't care where they leave a mess. they figure nature will take care of it, I have seen it first hand. there seems to be no limit to the mess people will make for US to clean up.
plus now you have people building meth labs in the woods leaving toxic dumps, its just getting worse.

Have you heard any other feedback from them? This seems like a great step...

Actually, I was at the Baldwin Office today picking up new maps of the M-37 area that have been recalculated as a result of our comments. They have also agreed to use our suggested alternative as their alternative C -- with a couple of modifications for "environmental" reasons.

It'll be interesting to see what it looks like when it comes out.

Most importantly, I think they now percieve us as a group who they can partner with and who has the longevity to stick with the process for the duration of the project.
