Default Clinton River

Just got back from my 1st kayak paddle on the Clinton this year. Went from the Canoe park on Elizibeth Lake rd upstream until we came to a big tree the back downstream to Cooley Lake rd. Saw a few hawks, 3 deer and a bunch of mallards, none of the migratory waterfowl I usually see in the spring. Need to take a chainsaw with me next trip to clear some log jams and down trees.

Went out yesterday & paddled the Huron launched & the Cedar Island access and paddled up to the dam near Oxbow Lake. Anybody no the legalities regarding portaging dams on a river?

We paddled around on Stony Creek Saturday for a bit.

How was the cliton out that way?
We did from Fern hill to D'town Clem last summer. It was nice and peaceful.

We're smooth water old folk!

It is a lot tighter & more down trees out here. According to DNR it is legal to portage around dams using the most direct route. Now to convince the people who live next to them of that.

talked to a couple guys yesterday putting in by the parking lot off Letica Dr. just east of D-town rochester. They said its about two hours to the yates dam from there. I didnt think it would be that far. Somethings is off on the times he said.
They said it was clear to the damn, portage around and another hour and a half to the park on Van dyke just south of M59 and that stretch is clear of trees as well.

Paul,

I usually put in near livernois and Avon, and go to yates. Never takes me more than 2 hours. From that parking lot, if you paddle at all it's 45 minutes tops. I do the whole trip if I'm moving in a little over an hour typically. There's a fun hydro, that is directly under the Rochester rd bridge.

We paddled from Yates to Heritage Park just south of Hall Rd. on Van Dyke yesterday.

A lot of downed tree and shallow spots. The wife got out 3 or 4 times, I managed to struggle through staying in the boat.

Total run was about 2.5 hours. We'll do it again for sure.
