Default Am I missing something on this tow rig

Took this truck for a spin today at lunch.

http://backwebs.homenetinc.com/lynch...11687#tippytop

Aside from the light color interior (not a fan) is there anything I should be looking at as potential problems with these trucks. It will be my new DD as its replacing my car and will probably only see towing/hauling 25% of the time.

They don't get the fuel economy the sticker says. Even with the displacement on demand. My dad has a 2011 and all he does is bitch about the MPG. I think he gets 15/17. Hes 60 and drives like it. He isn't stomping on it. They are nice trucks and ride really nice compared to the torsion bar sierras.

Its a truck, not a Jetta.

The flip side is I'm looking at torsion bar 2500 Silverados with the 6.0L just in case.

Be prepared for it to use oil. Once that happens be prepared for gm to say its normal...other than that they are a nice truck....i work at a gm dealer and other than the oil consumption we dont see many glareing issues.

We have an 07 Suburban and we've had it in for multiple oil consumption tests. Was losing oil, but don't know where. Wasn't leaking for burning. Would go through a quart a month almost! Been to the dealership about 4 times now. Everything is perfect now. Don't know what fixed it, but she is back up to par.

Great trucks. I would try to stick with the 6 Speed to increase mileage. You could also look into the Vortec Max package if you are worried about the power.

Not sure what truck prices are like out there but it seems that price is fairly steep. Maybe you could use this one to negotiate a lower price.

This one has the Z71 appearance package as well.

Seems 28K is steep for a 2 year old truck. Have you looked at new?

Gm says it can use 1qt per thousand miles iirc. There are tons of them that push that number.

Anyway - I can get you supplier pricing and new gm trucks look like $2500 off + 72 months @ 0% financing or $4500 off w/o financing.

My 2000 5.3 and my 2007 5.3 (newer style) both used 1/2 quart of oil every 7500 miles.

I paid 28k for a 2007 newer style crew with 0 miles on it.

No more excessive than jeep saying a jk can use a quart every 1k miles.

As for mileage, my 2000 got 17. My 2007 was a 4 speed and had the active fuel management and it got 18.

I saw as good as 23, but I was cruising at 62 mph on the freeway.

I think gm's 1500's are realy nice trucks. That truck seems priced pretty high.

Bumping this because I think I found the "one"

2005 Sierra 1500
5.3, auto ,4x4 58K
3" leveling kit 3" front, 1 rear
Leather interior, no rips just a couple of wrinkles.
brand new 285 Nitto Teragrapplers

Should I pass on this or pick it up. I haven't got a price yet because it just dropped on their lot. I'm expecting it to be between 18.5 and 19K.

The truck looked like it sat in a show room when it wasn't being driven by Grandpa to the elks lodge.

Discuss.

Here is a link to it even though it doesn't show much.

Sounds like a nice truck. Price still sounds a little high to me. Keep in mind you can get a low mileage new body style truck in the low $20,000 range. I would think that truck should be in the 17,000 to 18,000 range.

Good luck!

I would suggest you hold out for a 6 speed trans truck if you can afford it. Those screaming 2nd gear climbs with the 4 speed are not fun.

Picked it up today.
Truck booked at 19.9K on nada, I paid 19.5 with what I wanted on trade. While that doesn't sound all that great, my car was lemon. The next two big ticket items to go were the engine and trans. The engine had about 10K before it needed a timing belt and the trans has been acting funny since about 75K. Just knowing that made it an awesome deal.

Just sold an 09 crew cab for 24k, got the new F-150 ec o boost, that 5.3 did not like towing my Jeep or much of anything for that matter. The 342 rear end probably caused that problem..

5 months later and I love the F-150, towes great vert similar to the deisel
