Default Labor Time for 3.1 Head R&R

Can anybody give me the labor time for cylinder head R&R on a 2002 Malibu with the 3.1?

A friend of mine was quoted $1700 for a head gasket job and that seems way too high to me. I don't think we charged that much to do heads on the GM vans.

Thank you.

Thanks. Is it me or does that seem way to expensive? Even if labor was $100/hour that is still only a grand. Unless they quoted high to give them room if the heads were cracked or something. I told my friend that she could probably just buy a used engine for way less than that.

I quoted a similar job (03 Impala 3.4) at our shop today at $1200 if the heads were ok. That includes gaskets, fluids, having the heads checked and milled etc.

x2 and like stated above that includes the cost of having the heads sent out to be checked over.

Last 3100 I did was around 1500 if I remember right. I used premium parts, did the intake manifold gasket upgrade, new head bolts, fresh oil, antifreeze, filter, and I also had the heads pressure checked and milled.

Quality work costs money.
