If only there was a way to profit off picking up hitchhikers. buy an old police car and install all the police stuff back in it and hell just between Albuquerque and Santa Rosa new mexico you could make a small fortune.

I always try to use my best judgement. If someone is hitch hiking I won't puck them up but if they don't ask and they don't seem shady I will usually offer. If someone is broken down and i have time to stop I usually will. It is a risk but for every bad person there is probably 1000 good ones that genuinely need a hand. I know I have been stranded before and it sucks watching everybody ignore you and keep driving.

Henry Lee Lucas used to pull shady shit like that. Act like his car is fucked up and then kill your ass. Besides...I work with fuck-ups for a living and try to minimize any possible contact with them if I can.

I do give mentally ill people cigarettes all the time though...they dig smoking and always seem to appreciate it.

I've never stopped for a hitch hiker but might if it was an old lady. Stranded driver's I'll stop to help if it's an old lady as well. I figure that's one class of people I could easily defend myself against if something were to go down.

You noticed that too, eh? I always like getting ready to transport a psych patient and having them say "Dude, can I get a cig before we leave?". I'll tell them "No, but if you behave, I'll stop and you an have one before we drop you off". Works like a charm.

As for hitch hikers, I've stopped for broken down cars before. I saw some lady stuck on the side of I94 with a couple of brats in the back seat, and she was trying to figure out how to get the flat tire off the car. I changed her tire, she offered to buy me lunch, then offered to give me $50. I politely refused, and told her to get her kids some ice cream later, and we'd be even.

Other than that, I'm not stopping. I've hauled too many crazy ass people, and seen too many news stories about crazy ass people. What's bad, is that the skinny hot chicks tend to be the bat-shit craziest of them all.

A few years back near here a lady picked up a poor disheveled middle aged woman walking down the side of I-75. The woman was so appreciative for the ride that she stabbed the driver 15+ times and shoved her out of the car, leaving her for dead on the side of the highway.

Picking up hitchhikers is stupid. Even the most innocent looking hottie or frail grandma can pull a trigger. We pay taxes for MSP, let them play taxi.

I was working with a guy that was going home to Bay City area, down that road that runs next to Gray Iron kinda up where it starts to open up into more of a marshy area, and he came across a car on the side of the road that was stopped and a woman next to it. He pulled over and walked up to his window and was talking to him. I guess out of the corner of his eye he caught some movement and it was a guy sneaking up on the passenger side of his car.

I'd never pick up a hitchhiker and sad to say probably never stop to help anyone out these days. I'll gladly call someone for a person, but I think that's about as far as I'd go. Even when it comes to a woman on the side of the road. No woman in her right mind is going to hitchhiking or looking for help from strangers. To me that is a huge red flag...

I have a weird question. If you need to go somewhere why wouldn't you phone a friend, call a family member, or a taxi? If you are broken down other than a flat why wouldn't you call a tow truck? I know people don't have a ton of money but seriously.. how much is your safety worth?

Truth

If you dont have any friends left that can help you with a ride you're probably an asshole. If you don't have a cell to arrange for some kind of help with a tire or a tow you're probably some kind of dirtass single tooth sisterfukcer.

Hell people even post up on this board and can usually get the help they need. I can't see much reason anymore to be hitching or wandering tearily down the road looking for a free ride.

Ironically I passed my first actual hitchhiker today in months on the entrance ramp to 96. I didn't pick him up

I gave a kid a ride to his car that was out of gas on the freeway a couple months back.

Saw the car on the freeway and just happened to need to get gas myself. When we saw him walking away from the station with a can of gas, we offered him a ride.

My only regret was shaking his gas covered hand.

So you're a "Dirtass single tooth Sisterfukcer" if you're cell phone dies, you don't have your car charger (because you have it in your BMW), and your car dies on the side of the road?
