Default Mcinerneys Jeep and chrysler dealership....shady?

So the wife and I have been looking at getting a jeep wrangler unlimted for the last month or so and we happened to be downriver this weekend for a wedding. They had a white Sahara unlimted there that we saw on Saturday night, and we stopped in today to take it for a drive. Upon opening the door of this brand new jeep today I noticed the dash was half removed and the factory Nav unit was gone. The wife was talking to a sales women inside while I was checking out the jeep outside. I went inside and told the sales women that the stereo was stolen and she said that they removed it and they vin lock them and keep them in storage untill a buyer wants the car due to having several units stolen in the past. Story sounded legit but I insisted to dig deeper. I then noticed that there were 3 other jeeps there all with Nav units and all still installed. I told the sales women we wanted to drive the jeep but didnt want to since the dash was hanging half off and the radio was gone, she insisted its normal and take it for a spin. So we did. As we were driving the jeep I noticed that someone had pried the dash open and broke 3 of the tabs, and chipped/broke the fascia to remove the nav unit. I also noticed that the antenna cable was broken out of the factory nav unit. IMHO the sales women had fabricated a lie to cover up for a Nav unit being stolen from the Jeep, or they have the most piss poor service group at that dealership, either way im not impressed with them and I think that anyone looking for a 2012 White JK unlimed sahara may not want to buy the busted dash vehicle from them. Not sure if they are shady or not but either way I will not be going back there.

I haven't heard too many bad things about them other than the typical stealership stuff (i.e. $200 to change fog lamp bulb in a ZJ).

I had my TJ there once for the TSB to make the samn dashboard stop cutting out. Did as they were told.

Salesperson was probably embarrassed that they had units on the lot ripped off.

Thats what I think it was also, but for me it comes to principal and I call you out and someone keeps digging a bigger hole(lie) then im done with them. No biggie just made me wonder how many times brand new cars get vandalized before someone even buys them.

When I was looking at JKs, the dealership in Southfield had the nav units out of the nearly all of the Jeeps, Dodges, and Chryslers on their lot because of a problem with thefts.

I don't think the dealership's excuse is all that implausible. It's possible that the units you saw on the lot that did have them installed were being prepped for sale. I cannot imagine a dealership would actually let you take one out on a test drive that had just had the dash ripped out of it. I think it's more likely that whoever removed it from that particular JK you drove probably just did a sloppy job.

However, if you wanted to test drive one with the unit installed, they should have accommodated that request as well, IMO.

I remember bringing wreckers in to come pull stuck new Buicks and Oldsmobiles out of a grass lot at Orion assembly in the 80s. Sunk to the frame in a few cases. IIRC they were rework cars waiting to go back for corrections. New and already stuck and snatched out.

More often than you think, and often by the security guards.

so let me get this straight, the saleswomen MAY have told you a lie about the stereo and you wont buy a car from them now!?!? were all the stereo's wires clipped or where the plugs there? I am guessing it was a lube tech who ripped out the stereo and was in a hurry. its not like if you bought the jeep they wouldn't make it right buy putting a new dash section and make sure the radio/nav works as it should.

I guess I am not seeing the big deal here but thats just me i guess I take things at face value. It sounds to me like you want to buy a new jeep, but expect it to be perfect, god i hope you dont find out what happens on some of those test drives....

I'm sure damages and shit happens to new vehicles that gets fixed and you never even hear about. However, that's the key, you never know about it. But I'd be damned if I dropped $30k+ on a vehicle that I knew was damaged and some shady shit peddler tried to sell me some bullshit about.
