Default Dish Network Internet, Anyone have it?

There's an ad in the local paper that says 12 meg speeds. I called and the guy said it's satellite based, 12 meg download, 2 meg upload. $59.99 a month, no additional charges other than tax and the $99 to get it installed. I'm currently paying $40 a month for 1 meg download speed and maybe half that in upload speed so changing to a faster speed is a no brainer for the price, but I don't want to shell out the dough and get stuck in a contract if the guy is full of it and it's typical satellite snail like speed.

Ive never liked satellite internet providers. If you have satellite now, i would definitely upgrade. No personal experience with Dish Network Internet tho, had TV from them for a while, and have had no complaints

I've got wireless broadband now and they want stupid amounts of money for a slightly faster connection. I've got DishTV and have no problems with that, but the reviews I've seen online is that nobody at Dish knows what they're talking about when it comes to internet service.

I worked for Dish, and unless things have changed since winter 2010, stay away from their internet. It's about as fast as dial-up in reality. Like I said though, unless things have changed since then.

Supposedly things have changed since then and that's what I'm trying to verify, no way in heck do I want to get stuck with the old stuff.

Cable is not an option where I live, someone did install fiber optic cables in my area 6 or 7 years ago but have never done anything with it.

I doubt they would refund the $99 installation if it turns out to be enhanced dialup.

I want unlimited so I can stream Netflix and that type of stuff without having to worry about going over a limit, last I heard Verizon doesn't provide anything like that unless you're grandfathered in.
