Default Adjusting Backlash on manual steering gearbox

I have a 69 f250 with a manual gearbox that is sloppy, I have read that i can adjust the backlash, but I need to find a manual to explain how to do it, since its easy to mess it up. Does anyone have the procedure on how to do it?

If it is a NP-435 take a look at this link. It shows GM but any manual from the big three will work. "http://www.scribd.com/doc/57346896/NP435-Repair-Manual" remove the quotation marks. This is the same one but a larger image size and a PDF file. http://home.comcast.net/~vx/NP435_Repair_Manual.pdf

I do believe he is referring to a steering gear box. If so there should be an adjuster and lock nut located on the top of the box.

I see that now. I saw manual gear box and thought of a transmission. Well I guess I found a manual to when I tear down my transmission.
