Proper birfield maintenance?

I wheeled my truck for the last 2 years and from what I've been told the birfields are the weakest part of the Yota axles. So befor I have a problem and have to find out the hard way how to fix/replace/repair these, what should I do?

What size tires are you running?

Basically, to get at them, you need to remove the spindle. So find a service manual and learn up on how to do basic maintenence. You should learn how to service your hubs and bearings anyway. Once you are there, its not that much harder to get at the birfields.

COmplete front end work:

How to separate the birfield stub from the inner:

A different/quicker way to do it on the trail without taking about the spindle:

By the way, in my experience, the best way to get cone washers off (behind the nuts on the locking hubs and on the knuckle studs) is to back the nut off most of the way, then use an air chisel with a rounded/blunt tip on the end of the stud. The only thing I've done that pops them off 100% of the time.
