Question Lane car company

Anyone here know anything about LANE CAR COMPANY in Ortinville? They have an Excursion that has caught my eye. I have never heard of them before, I dont live in the area, and have never bought a car from a small dealer like them, so I have my reservations. I dont want to run all the way out there just to waste my time.

They do a lot of auction flipping. I looked at a 07 powerstroke superduty there and it had some major issues. They claimed it was perfectly fine at first and then admitted they experienced the same things I did. Still tried to persistantly get me to buy it as is. The next week the entire lot was empty (auction) and then they started bringing vehicles in little by little. I pass the place a minimum of 2 times a day.

1st rule of used cars- if it seems like a screamin deal on a used car lot, it likely has issues.

Considering excursions haven't been made in how long? That's gonna be a tough find. Superduty's in general hold up well to high mileage, not just the diesel engines, but the chassis as well....

well Im looking at F250, 350 and Excursion's.... I know the years of production, the year isnt really a concern, and I know they hold up well, but I drive alot and I keep my vehicles for a while so I dont want to start off with a high millage vehicle and have to start replaceing stuff right away. I also know that I might have to fix things on any used vehilce, and I know time can be just as bad as millage. I want to give myself a fighting chance and get some thing with lower millage and older, sense I cant afford new and no miles

You want a low mileage super duty/excursion? You are fooling yourself if think a high mileage one isnt going to last if it's been taken care of...I know several people that bought their trucks with 150k+ and none of them has had any issues, and most of those are over 200k now

my point was the newest excursion you can get is 8 years old now, even a modest 10k a year puts most of them at or over 80k miles. You wanted under 50k....

I bought mine with 185k, I'm now at 210k a year later. It's holding up just fine.

Keep in mind a lot of dealers including this one, do not run a Carfax unless requested. I run them for Certified units and I will also run one if I have reason for concern. Very few dealers have an unlimited Carfax account. They still charge us per report run.

Now if a dealer refuses you a Carfax.... RUN!

IMHO, anything that shows less than 10k miles per year raises a giant red flag- why wasn't it driven? In the shop all the time? Just sat for months on end then driven 3000 miles? All are worse than a vehicle with 15k miles per year on it.

this thread was about peoples experience with a car dealer. not how much miles guys have put on high mileage super duties. who cares. the guy wants to find a low mileage truck. let him find a low mileage truck.

all i can say is lane was in a rinky dink lot across from bullfrogs bar. now they have moved down the road to a nice dealership that has been closed since the american people took over GM and shut down a bunch of dealers. So they must be doing something right. or very very wrong.

Heard ya the first time.

Guess my point was that if the truck was a low mileage creampuff, it would be on a new car dealer's used lot. New car lots send the vehicles with issues to auction, where they end up on 2nd or 3rd tier lots. My neighbor has worked in the used car biz for almost 30 years, he's told me a few horror stories.

At any rate, carfax, have an independent mechanic check it out, that way if the dealer doesn't stand behind it you've at least limited your risk.
