Hijacking your thread for a minute

I have a ross Mt Whitney I bought in 95? It's aluminum,chrome moly fork,16" frame I believe,with 26" tires.
It has all deore lx components
ritchie wheels and tires
I paid about $650 when I bought it,any idea what it's worth now? It needs brake pads and a cable adjustment, but still has good tread on original tires.
I realize it is not an american made ross, but it had the same components as bikes costing much more,at that time,so I bought it.

well, it's a 95, that means it's 17 years old, needs new tires, brakes, tune up, etc.

It should fetch $50

It'll strengthen your core a fair amount. Stems are available in all kinds of lengths and angles to make it comfy. Specialized makes one that uses a shim to change the angle 6 different ways so you can make it way up or way down and anywhere in between.

Look for a used Specialized maybe a Hardrock and slap some road tires on it. You should be able to pick one of these up between $200-300 and some decent road tires will run you another $40. This is a good way to put some miles on the road and in a few minutes you can swap the tires out, throw the bike in the back of the 4x4 and go trail riding.

When I was a kid Mongoose bikes were pre- pubescent boys wet dreams. Still the case or did they go the way of the Schwinn?

I've seen good deals on Gt's and Dyno's from the 90's on Craigslist. They are not old enough to interest the collectors, but still decent bikes for $100-$150.

If he can lived with a used bike.

both my little one's are racing Haro's on the BMX track, Haro still makes good bikes. JohnnyJ kids don't have the boner's for bikes like we did when we were kids, the only kids that even know if they have a cool bike are the ones I see at the bmx tracks on the weekends, or at the dirt jump's, or at the Downhill races I go to....EVERY neighborhood kid these days just rides walmart shit....

But, if you still want to spend the money on an expensive bmx bike for your boy check out something like dan's comp. They have a lot of quality brands.

Especially since I have 2 girls. I'm seeing some 24" Treks, Specialized, and Giant bikes on craigs list for < $200.

I'm trying to not buy her a tank and ruin the fun of riding.

I think I'm kinda in the the sub $200 mindset. I'd like to try it out. If its something I get into I don't mind spending good money on a better one in the future.

I don't think I'd pay $150 for that bike.

For some reason people think their old ass bikes are gold. If I see the word "Vintage" in a Craigslist title I don't even bother looking.

When you guys are talking about the size of the bike, like 16", you are talking the distance from the pedals mount to where the seat sticks in?

Most often that's from the center of the crank to the top of the seat tube.

I seriously just got pissed looking through Metro Detroit Craigslist. People are retarded.

This one just sold but that's the level of bike you should be getting for $200.
