Default The KRAKIN build thread

Well being as i've been sick to the doctor poked and xrayed all week i decided i might as well make a build thread of "unfinshed" project truck. I bought the truck back in 07 when i lived in Wyoming. As you will see in the pic's i post it looked as if it came straight out of Mexico when i first got it.

The truck is a 1997 Cheverolet k1500 4x4.
5.7 vortec, Completley rebuilt 4l60e, 241 transfer case.
Came with the 8.25 Ifs front and 10 bolt rear axle.

The first week i bought the truck i bought some 33 BFg A/ts and used some 15 inch alloy wheels my cousin gave me. Talk about stuffage.

About a year after that i was into the blingy crap and tossed on a 6 inch rough country rcx lift and all the chrome stick on's autozone had.

After this point i sold of the wheels and tires and put some fresh torsion bar's from a 2500hd and some 37x14 irok's on 15x12 wheels i got from Unlimited Offroad and removed the horide tail light's.

I was pretty happy with this look and content for a while until i kept breaking front end part's.

This bring's up to what i consider the actual "progress" of building a all purpose full size.
I ditched the IFS and went to straight axle with crossover steering. I got a good deal from Unlimited offroad and bought my leaf springs, braket's, and the 79 hp dana 44 from them.

I started gutting all the IFS componet's from the front and sold them along with the irok's.

Had my passenger side steering tapped and threaded for my crossover steering arm.

I then started the assembly and moking up of the front axle and steering setup.
For the steering setup i used DOM and 1 ton chevy tre bung's and the 1 ton tre's.

Got the front end to pretty much wrapped up other than the ring and pinion and gears.

For the tire's i decided to go with the 37" BFgoodrigh km2's which i am supposed to sell to thrill20 but haven't had time to get them pulled off yet.

The shock's i went with are the Bilstein 5150 shcoks.

Nice reservoir shock for the price.

This brings me to the rear axle. I decided to go with the 14ff for the price and strenght. It seemed like a no brainer for me. I picked one up in Clare for a great deal with disc brakes already swapped on it. However i did end up grinding the perches off as the older chevy's are 42" and 88-98 is 47" widths. So i pulled out the grinder and went to work.

I also swapped the lug bolt's out for some for a dually for extra lenght as the originals didn't leave much room for thread's on aftermarket wheel's.

I also decided for the rear suspension to ditch the 4" block and do a shackle flip and change the stock "tin" shakle for a more stout 6" long one. This setup netted me roughly 4.5 inches of lift in the back. I then added a zero rate and 1" add-a-leaf also.

You are more than welcome to drive it to Kalamazoo and leave the keys and the signed title in it. I promise I will take good care of it.

This pretty much bring's me up to the current status of the build. Still isn't finished and it's way to big because i haven't removed the body lift yet but it's coming along and i'm pretty happy with it.

I agree. I use to have a 97 chevy z71 with a 5.7 and i'd take that motor over my current 5.3 for towing any day. Best truck i ever owned.

I'm getting ready to sas a reg cab shortbox with the skys 2 1/2 brackets and some 2.5 springs. What are you running for front leafs? looks like there might be a zero rate in there too? Trying to keep mine as low as possible on a 35-37 inch tire.

I'm running the ORD 3" braket with a 4" lift spring, and a 1" zero rate. I moved the axle forward a 1" also and figure it should sit nicely once the body lift is out.

I think it'll look sweet once the body lift is out.
