They are referred to as "suicide knobs" for a reason. They are also illegal for use on the street. I do however have a friend with cerebral palsy who legally uses one since he has to run the throttle and brake with one hand and it helps him steer.

I used to have one on the flat fender jeep I had because of no power steering and it worked great.

I would be concerned if your refering to wheeling with one. Hit a rock/stump and have the wheel jerk suddenly and catch your hand with that ball might equal broken fingers and or wrist. Kinda the same reason they say don't put your thumbs inside the wheel.

You can always run Hydraulic assist and have it street legal while being able to turn easily.
