I understand the wifey thing and the limited/willing friends thing.
And we all know the HWHL phylisophy. You violated that golden rule and know you're paying the price.

I dreaded the body swap after the accident. It took a few months to get reengaged. Just like some others have said. Let it rest for a while. Take the SMR guys up on the help. I'd drop the body lift out, or as much as I could.
Then maybe step down a couple tire sizes or not. 40's can be driven pretty successfully around town if you elect to throw it behind the motorhome and do the 'retire' shuffle. lol

The biggest improvement beside the body with no leaks and rusty holes will be ADDING AIR CONDITIONING!. This will go a long way in the HWHL department. Believe me I know. When we swapped way back when, Kim said OMG, how can they stand all the dust.

I'm not sure what is available aftermarket or maybe an OEM take off. Or if the body you have has the A/C evap module built into the HVAC. Doing the swap would be the perfect time to get that feature added.
There are plenty of A/C guys here that can guide you in what might be your best option.

A Rubi might be a relatively easy way out, selling yours now might prove to be more difficult. You've got a phenemonimal drivetrain that you'll never duplicate again. Stepping backwards, ????? You might be sorry you did.

Say it's not so your the only reason I am doing a axle swap on my YJ so I don't have to work so had to run with you. Guess I might as well put the stock axles back under the YJ. GLWS

If I keep it, I won't be changing tire size. I don't see any real merit in that. The purpose of going to a Rubi would be to have something newer, more cushy, less maintenance and something that can be towed on a tow bar. I'm not going to pull a full spooled rig on a tow bar. I have the GM AC compressor and the Jeep under dash AC blower. But, AC is not in the picture. Closing up a soft top jeep to use AC makes no sense to me. It will not keep the dust out, and I simply don't like wheeling when it's 80+ degrees out. I have no desire to leave the lake to drive down dusty trails. And I don't think the AC will really overcome the heat that comes through the firewall and floor from the V8 without adding a lot of insulated carpet, which turns into a different maintenance item.

It's either keep it the way it is and add the new body, or sell it.

By the way, it's still for sale.

I know it all comes down to personal preference but wouldn't swapping the body get you carpeted interior? of is it just a shell? Front of dash insulation and floor covering will get you the heat protection you need. That's all anyone uses today. Aftermarket insulation is a bit expensive but does work well. It doesn't have to be full carpeting, you could just have it in front.

A/C isn't just for 80* days. Dusty conditions occur at any time of year. A/C just allows you to be a bit more comfortable. Hell, I put the windows up and run for a few miles and then turn it off and put the windows down. It just allows you to take to edge off when trail conditions are horible.
Pressurizing the cabin will aid in reducing the dust inside. I'm not saying it will elilminate all dust. However it is part of the HWHL quotient.

As far as a sale, I've got my own buggy that I'm building in the garage right now. In fact I'm headed out there right now to continue to laying out the wiring. The dam designer of the vehicle never left enough room for all the relays and connectors and wire bundles! I've got a 8" x 10" wall to put everythying.

Yes, it's on Pirate. 900 views and one interested party that fizzled out.
