Exclamation Need some diagnostics help asap!

04 Chrysler pacific

My wifes car will not start(turn over). Battery is fully charged. She said she had a few issue were she attempted to start it and it wouldn't turn over but waited a few minutes tried again and it started.

Since we bought the car the dash menu periodically gives us issues saying the vehicle is not in park.

My question is how do I diagnos this between starter, neutral safety or something else?

Thanks in advance.

from a pacifica forum.....
take a pair of jumper cables and connect from the negative battery terminal to the engine block. use both the black and the red cables (more connection). this should work, temporarily, and then you will know your negative wire is no good. happened to me and several others.

the fix is a good sized wire directly from negative terminal to one of the starter bolts. (i used a 4 gauge) it starts like it never started before.

That did the trick. Battery to body no go. battery to block and it worked perfect. Should i replace the ground from the battery to the starter, starter to block. Or probably just clean up the ground
contacts.

Well new development. When I started it and pulled the cables off there was very heavy sparks. Started the car and battery light came on. As soon as i started driving it went off. we started smelling something burning so I open the hood and saw something glowing orange toward the bottom of the engine (passenger side by the firewall). As soon as i shut it off the glowing went away.

Sounds like your temporary ground wire came off and the "glowing" was a small gage secondary ground that was being used as a ground. I have seen people toast them before. Usually they burn out pretty quick and usually during cranking but if you started it and were running the heater, lights and such with only a small secondary ground as a main one it could cause it to heat up and burn out.

Check your connections. If you know it is a ground replace the battery cables with new ones.
Go through everything that is in the starting circuit under the hood starter, relays, fuses, engine ground, battery ground check that everything is tight.

This could be because one of your computers on your vehicle is not waking up. You could have a bad or faulty module on your vehicle shorting out your BUS system. This is very common! This could cause your no crank condition.Read more: Chrysler Pacifica 2004 Pacifica wont start. Has power, lights, - JustAnswer http://www.justanswer.com/chrysler/4...#ixzz1o0cqngUd

This is another response i found that discusses the dash-car not in park
