Default toyota axle help

first let me say i am a jeep guy and mainly mess with ford 9" and dana axles and i don't know shit about a toy axles

ok what happend is my buddy blew up his stock ring pinion and carrier in his 90 4 runner that according to the vin had a v6 from the factory and now has a sbf in it so i go and order a v6 ring and pinion, master install kit and picked up a used carrier off pirate for a v6 now i get all the parts and go to install them the ring and pinion and carrier do not fit and i soon find out i have a 4 cly third so i pick up a used v6 bare slightly modified (holes fro the studs are inlarged two 3/8") third off pirate

now i cant find cairrer bearings to fit what i need is a bearing that will have a 3.255 od and a 1.975 id

i spent 2 hrs looking at every toy carrier bearing at the parts store and i have ordered 3 differnt sets and all are wrong

i am confused

The only difference in a 4cyl gear set and a 6 cyl set is the length of the pinion. Many companys dont even make both, they make only 4cyl sets and provide a thick shim to use when installing in a 6cyl carrier.

I dont know what to tell you on the carrier bearing....they are all pretty universal. Generally the only options yiu have when buying a master install kit is v6 or 4cyl, there are no ratio / year breaks thar I can think of, atleast in the pre tacoma mini trucks.

The only thing that pops to mind is maybe the new third you bought is for a tacoma 8.4 axle....they are slightly larger and will not fit in the older 8" housing.

Some of the Cruiser diff's use larger carrier bearings. I have a master install kit for one at home. I will check bearing sizes later.

Yeah a 4.88 gear is a unique ratio and they used a specific carrier for it...

On a side note, does anyone know of a yota solid front axle up for grabs?

according to the link Jesus provided, even if it is a factory 4.88 third the carrier should be the same...only the ring and pinion, and housing itself was different
