Default Hey 460 Guys!

I'm looking to upgrade a few things on this thing over the next month.

Currently running a standard Performer intake and a 750 4160. I'm moving up to a 850 4150.

My question is on the intakes that fit the cam profile I'm running.
Both the Performer RPM and the Weiand Stealth list RPM range from 1500-6500. They are about the same price and seem to have a pretty close profile, although I have not placed the 2 side by side to really measure them up.

Have any of you run both and do you have a preference of 1 over the other?

I have ran both on my Torino. I currently run the performer rpm but prefer the stealth. Only reason I run the performer is due to my hood not fitting with the stealh. I run a holley 850 dbl pumper.

Missing a LOT of info. What are the engine specs? What heads do you have and howabout porting? As much info as you can provide will help. What do you plan on zinging this thing to (rpm's)?

Just a few points:

The stealth is going to be better suited for more cubic inches and the runners are designed close to the CJ sized ports. You need some pretty aggresive heads, cubic inches and cam to get it to work to the maximum potential.

The Performer RPM intake (NOT AIR GAP) is going to have smaller runners and ports but will be much better suited for a milder application. Also, I believe these still come port matched to the Edelbrock gaskets. These are awesome intakes for a milder engine and the longer runners work great.

If your engine is a true 460 cubic inches and not stroked to 514 and above, don't go with the stealth unless you have DOOE-R heads and are spinning to 7K.

My .02

I have some of those DOOE-R's by the way, and a lot of other stuff too. Just not the intake you need. If you're ever looking for heads, pistons, valvetrain (big stuff), balancers etc. get with me. I have more than I can remember and have no attachment to any of it. Most is big cu in stuff but some of the things dont really matter cu in.

^^^ thanks for the imput! D0ve heads ported and polished. Compression is right around 9.6:1. Decent middle of the road cam. Comp Extreeme energy.

Current top end is a regular Performer with a 4160 750. Lincoln exhaust manifolds that were ported and it really isn't hitting due to the limiting carb, intake, and exhaust flow.

upgrading to 1 of the listed intakes, adding a 4150 850, and headers so make this thing pull right through 6200-6500. That's what the cam and heads are set up for.

possible 3K stall TC in the works as well......

Check this link out and see if you can find a similar build to yours. Notice that they dont go to a Stealth until they get to the 550 HP level. With your heads and compression I'm sure you're not there. It's interesting to go through the builds. This site is fantastic for the 385 series engines and even John Kaase is on there every now and then.

They wait until 500 HP to go to 3" exhaust? I had a family member that ran a 460 in the pulls and he said his truck was night and day when he switched up to 3".

That list isn't gospel for every configuration. There's hundreds of different combos that work. It's just a good reference. Your family member probably spun up at 6500 rpm for the duration of a pull amd the engine was probably built for high rpm only. That would be the difference between a puller and a wheeler or muscle car.

I built the motor for the previous owner of the Bronco I have now..... it was just 18 years ago when I did it.....

I had to keep a few things in $$$ check. I just want a little more than it has now.

I'll build the big motor next winter.

I've done a stupid amount of research already and I think I've hit every major site out there related to broncos and 460 platforms. For right now I'm just going to beef up this motor a little bit more for this season and stash away all my free $$$ for the next 9 months so I can start on a newer, bigger power plant for the 2013 season.

You sound too responsible to me. But it does seem like a good plan. If I can give you just a shread of advice, research it, plan it, put it on paper and friggin stick to it. I can't tell you how many times I've changed directions half way through. Have fun and good luck.
