Yeah, the first time I went to Windrock I was SOA on 35" Krawlers. Our host/guide was a rig on Rockwells, all stretched out, big engine & 49" Iroks. I was intimidated to say the least. I was in the rear of the group and we head down into this valley & I hear him through the trees hammering up this hill but could only see glimpses of him bouncing around. I'm thinking holy shit, what are we into? Everyone else in the group (35-37" tires) drove right up.

Now with that, I'm not saying these are not bad ass rigs on some wicked hills that I would never try. Fun to watch for sure.

I just learned several things watching this video:

1. If tube buggies are badass, welding more (useless) tubing makes things extra badass.
2. If you have all that extra tube and have aforementioned "extra badass buggy", YOU are equally EXTRA badass and don't need a helmet to protect your noggin.
3. If a sport includes horsepower, a hill and an open exhaust - you will attract lots of people.
4. God is involved, since nobody was killed.

I hate noise, but the noise those things make sure is purty.

What axles are most running? They seemed to be holding up well even with all the bouncing.

Watch it close. Lots of broken axle shafts or other internals. That, or their t-cases pop out of gear alot.

Entertaining to watch as long as they don't kill a bystander, but hammer down, point and shoot wheeling has never been my thing. It has more of a 'luck over talent' air about it that I don't care for. Keep it in the ORV parks for sure.

I agree 100%. Entertaining to watch and sweet to have a rig that can handle it, but the default to hammer down driving has never done much for me. Try it first without destroying the rig and trail, then give it more if that doesn't work.

the people standing at the bottom of the hill while those drivers pour the coals to the fire are surely swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool.............appearantly blatan disregard for bodily injury is high on the list. One of those tires shoots a rock and kills a bystander or one of those buggies takes a bad boune and kills some one, say good bye to the sport we enjoy so much....................... At least 3 times in 9 minutes I see some throttle jockey almost take out people standing on the hill or another rig.

With that said, the real talent is in the guys who design and built those chassis

I really like a chassis with so much tube they have limited visibility

You see that no matter where you go in offroading. How often have you saw people standing close to winch lines to get a good picture, or standing right under the tree they are tied off to, or between an off camber rig and a pinch point?

I remember a couple months back some kid getting stuck in the entrance to the woods course playing throttle jockey and there were a bunch of people directly behind him that got sprayed with mud and gravel...luckily thats all it was.

I guess when you drive like that you never know what side you'll land on or where a rock may sneak through the cage

I do like the fact that these guys push product development to new highs making overkill products available that a trail rider like me should never be able to break.
