Default WTF is wrong with this country? Lowes ads...

http://www.freep.com/article/2011121...m-TLC-Dearborn

‎"Calling the Lowe's decision "un-American" and "naked religious bigotry," Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, told the Associated Press he would also consider legislative action if Lowe's doesn't apologize to Muslims and reinstate its ads."

Are you fucking kidding me? Our government doesn't have any real issues to deal with so this is the new cause to take up?

I don't fully understand the issue...

Lowe's is facing serious problems over pulling advertisements? Isn't that their decision to make?

Exactly...

Whether you agree or disagree with someone's decision is irrelevant. But they should be allowed to make that decision without our government being involved. If people have an issue they can boycott Lowes.

Lowes did nothing wrong. They didn't say, "Fuck those A-rabs we don't want to be part of their show". But of course that's what this senator is trying to spin their decision into. They just chose to not participate.

The forced acceptance of every thought or ideal that we are experiencing in this country is disgusting. Given what this Senator wants to do how far off are we from laws that force you to watch shows like this or anything else they deem appropriate?

Okay I'm glad I had the right thought process with that, I was afraid I wasn't understanding the issue.

I personally would boycott Lowe's for not standing up for their decision.

A business should evaluate whether or not an apology is appropriate for a situation, they shouldn't have to apologize over every little bitch and whine.

Yup, the views of a few decide the direction for the many.

Well I'm tired of not being able to speak opinions contrary to the politically acceptable views. Where do I bitch and whine to get that changed?

You can bitch about it all you want. But it won't get changed because then your working against politics, because see then politics can't use your bitch and whine for their gain.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

I agree, the government should stay out of it.

i like how this is a NC based company that was advertising on a show about muslims in MI.. and who gets involved to start a fight? some dickhead from CA.. wheres the sense in that exactly? and he's gonna pressure the CA state government to fix the issue? wheres the seperation bewteen church and state exactly? or is there no seperation of mosque and state? the bottom line is lowes can advertise when and where they want.. they pay for it not the CA state legislature or the muslim groups involved. i bet lowes would gladly reinstate the advertising if say the ca state senator wanted to pay for half since it;s such a big f^&king deal to him.. maybe it was advertising that wasn't profitable? this will send a clear message to companies to not start advertising during shows related to ANY religion. now that i think abouit it that might work out well for all of us!

I'm torn on this one.

First, Lowes (and everybody else) needs to stop responding to every nutjob fringe group. There have been too many instances of a hand full of letters or phone calls (or a larger, but still small number of form letters/forwarded emails/letters/faxes) that cause businesses and governmental agencies to respond. The whole FCC Janet Jackson wardrobe failure witchhunt was set off by 5-7 letters. We have to stop empowering these fringe nutjobs by paying attention.

Second, the fact that some Congressman threatened "legislative action" over something so patently out of bounds shows that [a] he needs to become unemployed ASAP and [b] the Minority House Leader needs to smack him around for even suggesting that our legislative process as his personal toy to get his way.

Are we supposed to pay attention? Or did you mean we shouldn't pay attention?

Because if we don't pay attention, it is only allowed to continue to happen.
