hahahahaha........... way to bring a meaningless comparison to the discussion and then call me ignorant. It's obvious I didn't design the gates on the Titanic because it was built before any of us were born.

Technically anyone who could tell you about the gates is dead anyway. Well, except maybe for yourself.

It was covered in more detail last time but here:

Well I am sitting here looking at my winter tax bill right now and I can tell you I would gl;adly pay $75 a year for fire protection. Right now it is costing me $85 plus some change just on the winter tax bill.

They are called Fire Companies for a reason. Companies are out to make money and/or provide a service. If you don't pay the fee, you don't get the service. Seems legit to me.

I feel bad for the family. That is one of my worse fears. I'm glad they are ok and I hope they can get back on thier feet. I also hope they learned a lesson.

Based on the pictures I'd say they are about 5k from being whole. Who wants to take bets whether they had insurance.

Is it still to soon to go there?

So the next dilemna I see is the insurance company. If the property was insured would the insurance company deny paying claim based on apparent negligence of owners for not paying $75 fire protection fee? It can't be 'gross negligence' because there was no expectation of a fire persay. It was an accident.

I would imagine that in a location such as this one, if a property owner has property insurance in an area that does not provide fire protection through their property taxes, that is figured into the rates beforehand. If the community does not provide fire protection but the property owner has the option to purchase protection from the neighboring jurisdiction, the insurance probably requires that the owner make that purchase annually and provide proof to the insurance company in order to keep their policy valid.
